Is this a good deal for life insurance?

DH and I need to set up life insurance and we have an idea about how much we should get. Right now DH has some coverage through his job and I don't have anything. I was just informed by USAA that I qualify for a 7 yr plan for $50000 that will cost $5 per month without a medical examination. I know I need a lot more coverage than that but is that an ok plan to sign up for since it is better than nothing (what I have right now). I can cancel at any time so once we find life insurance we are happy with I can cancel. What do you think?

This may be a stupid question, but what about SGLI or VSGLI? Is the service member out already or did you have the membership from a parent?

I was able to get $100,000 term life for 30 years for $130 yearly.

USAA has very reasonable rates and a lot of coverage options if you are willing to submit to the blood test (they send a person out to your house to draw it). You can pick your amount of coverage with them up to a staggeringly high amount, if you want. I went simple with a $100k 20-year term life policy from them for just over $100 a year.
