Eco-conscious AND frugal mamas?

Some recent posts on the matter have inspired me to write a story about this, and my editor has cleared it. It's for the Sunday Business section of the Washington Post.

I am looking to talk to other parents about how they balance their desire to buy organic with their need to save money, in particular. I'm really looking to create guide for people on how to be frugal and eco-conscious.

Tell me your stories of how you make it work! Send me an e-mail at slayterme@washpost.com. You can also PM me your phone number and I can give you a call.

It was a good article...my only thought was that you missed the most eco-friendly and frugal approach of all - buying used.

If you buy non-organic (or even organic) used clothing for your child and you, you will save tons of money, plus be recycling and preventing the clothing from going into landfills.

With all the china-scare, i don't necessarily recommend buying used toys unless you do your research first, but clothes...no biggie! Plus, since they've been worn/washed so many times, you don't have to "fear" the pesticides that are on conventionally grown cotton clothing.

Oh, that's the bulk of the story. Did you go to any of the links at the bottom? It's an intro, with a break down of how to save and be eco-friendly at the same time. I talked about used stuff in every section but food!
