We made our first lapbook

We have main lesson books for language arts/math, and one for science/art, but I wanted something different for our history studies (Ancient History), so I decided to make lapbooks. We finally finished our first on "Early Man". My almost 4 year old joined in and made one too. They came out very cute and the boys were very proud of their work.

Here it is. For now, I'm taking dictation for ds#1, and usually typing out what he says. He then does the illustrations. Plus, it was a good exercise in meaningful cutting skills, a chance to paint, and a chance to get glue on their hands.

Thanks for sharing that. It has inspired me to work on a lap book of our own.

Well, that is my interpretation of lapbooks. I did a lot of reading on this forum ... it's hard when you are looking at 2-D pictures, but what I could gather, I think we got the general idea. It was fun to do, and would have been done much faster if we didn't have to hide the crayons and pencils until ds#3 was asleep. I decided not to do one on Mesopotamia, but we'll do Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and then one or two on the rest of the world, depending on how much creative ideas I can come up with (and information) for Ancient China, India, Africa and the Americas.

And thanks everyone! I was so happy to see them done and see how proud the boys were of their creations. I'm still not sure how much ds#1 actually *learned* about early man, though I think he got the general gist of it all.

Hooray! Thanks for sharing your pictures. We're about to do our first lapbook this week. I appreciated getting some ideas from the way yours are formatted.

You know our current science unit has us working on a Family Heritige Book, you just inspired me to do it lapbook style. So far we've just done some jotting down of ideas to put in it & fleshing them out (a 'family time line' photos - my son could draw one of everyone into a mini book!)

We are too. We're going to do one on whales because my DS has developed a fascination with them. I've been researching them too. Thanks for the pictures, that helps me to visualize.

One of the sample Apologia units on Live and Learn Press is on Whales. It is a complete set of mini books on whales. All you have to do is supply the information.

Thanks for clearing up my folding confusion, Frogguruami. BTW- after looking at your blog, we are totally using your idea for a Story of the World lap book.

I hope everyone keeps posting their completed lap books, they are wonderful and such an inspiration!
