is there such a thing as a decent pair of maternity jeans?

so, i have two pairs of maternity pants that fit me just fine. they stay up, they're comfortable, i love them (incidentally, they're both things i've picked up on sale from the gap). but they're work pants, not the kind of pants you want to live in around the house, you know?

but EVERY pair of maternity jeans i've tried on/bought slide off my belly. i have one full-panel pair from the gap that slide off because are too big (despite the fact that they're the same size as the pants i have that i love, go figure) so then i figured, 'maybe the full panel doesn't work on me,' ordered a pair from old navy that are demi-panel, and whaddya know they slide off too! what sucks is both of these look so cute it was so sad i had to return them/can't wear them comfortably. (i'm so vain! ) also, the ones i tried on at target seemed like they would have the same problem.

all i want for fall is one pair of jeans to wear all the time. i am so tired of wearing skirts and dresses! i have lived in skirts and dresses since may! is this so much to ask? i'm guessing maybe it is, especially because i don't want to spend big bucks for, like, eight weeks.

any recommendations??

I am going to make these tonight!

See this thread for how. I'll be using a lycra shirt that I've never managed to get a stain out of and some pants who's button piece ripped off.

I have a pair of these new kind of paneled ones and LOVE them--they have versions at both Motherhood and Mimi Maternity:

I know they look weird, but the panel is this super-stretchy lycra-like material and it never slips on me at all. Also, the panel goes up high enough that the "panel line" never shows through your shirts! I highly recommend trying a pair!

I love 7s and Citizens jeans... pricey, but sometimes you can find a good deal on ebay (and then resell them post-partum!).

Mine came from JC Penney are are the Underbelly style. They say Duo Maternity "Stretch" on the tag.

I'm huge, but I can still wear the Mediums alright. When I was smaller, they stayed up ON my belly and still looked okay. Now they are definitely under my belly but the butt of them is getting tight.

i saw the same recommendation on an old thread and i see some decent deals on ebay but i have no idea how to figure out what size i need. they all say "size 29" or whatever and like, hello, i had a 27" prepreg, but i'm 8 months pregnant so what does that even mean now? maybe i'm just dense.

interesting! how do the sizes run? i've found that the gap sizes have been pretty true to my old size (despite the sliding belly-band factor) - is this true for motherhood as well?

If its any guideline, I was a size 2 pre-preg--at the beginning of my pregnancy I wore an XS (only available at Mimi--Motherhood doesn't carry XS), but am buying a S now. I've gained 24 pounds and my belly is HUGE. For the jeans specifically, I had to get the ones from Mimi because the inseam on the smalls at Motherhood was way too short (and I'm only 5' 4 1/2")--the ones at Mimi are actually too long for me, but that's better than too short!

I would go up two sizes... I wore a 26" pre-pregnancy and bought two pairs of 27" jeans (I was a little too optimistic/hopeful)... and they lasted until about a month or so ago and they got a little toooo cozy. I think a 28" would have lasted me, though. They have great resale value and really look like "normal" (non-pregnancy) jeans, which was something I really liked about them (that, and they are SUPER comfortable).

hmmmm! for some reason i have such trouble with this sizing system. depending on the brand i've bought anywhere between a size 27 and a size 29 jean, you know? would you say these run bigger or smaller?

sorry for all the questions!

no, I'm glad to help! I just hope I don't lead you astray.......

Have you worn J Crew jeans before? With those, I wear the exact same size as I do 7s/Citizens. I don't know if that helps any. I think my gap size of jeans is one bigger than 7s/Citizens, but I haven't worn those for quite a long time. Do you know your natural waist size pre-pregnancy? I'd guess that'd be pretty accurate to the sizing of 7s/Citizens. It's tricky since ordering on ebay doesn't really allow for exchanges! Is there a retailer near you that sells them? If so, maybe you could go try a non-pregnancy pair on to at least see the size that works in the legs/butt--just without being able to button/zip them up... it might give you a better idea! Or...... perhaps order a new pair, which would ensure you'd be able to get the right size... pricey, but they could be resold in a couple/few months for probably at least half of what you paid--or saved for a future pregnancy if you love them!

My favorite pair of jeans fit me everywhere like they were made for me except the belly. Now they're too small. I figure that I only have a month to go, so not to sweat it. I figure I'll put them in the hospital bag. They're Motherhood full panel jeans. I would recomend going into the store and trying things on before buying second hand online though if at all possible. Then sometimes you find killer deals on the sale racks in the stores too.

I found my favorites at Macys and Target.....they still tend to fall a bit and that frustrates me.They look good though.....fashion over function ladies.

All I can say is that I have like 4 different pairs of maternity jeans that have just never fot right. They say they are my size but are either too tight on my belly or fall off all together. I have a pair of Motherhood jeans that fit but then two others of the same size that are different panals and they do not at all.

-sigh-

I am bad about returning things, maybe I will ebay these.

go try them on a pea in the pod and then buy them on ebay like the rest of us.
