Let see, my now 2.5yo son was breastfed for 4 months, and my daughter has been breastfed since birth, so that makes 8 months total. I NIP often. I've never had a negative experience. I was more embarrassed to give my son formula in public than I ever was to breastfeed him. More often than not, people seem to want to help in some way; saying things like, "Can I get you a chair?" when we're bwing.
Actually, I take that back, I DID have a negative experience this weekend. I was wearing my daughter in the mei tai and nursing while shopping at Ikea. I had a thin gauzy cover over her and me. My daughter and I were the only ones who knew she was eating. When we went to leave, we got into a very full elevator. My daughter proceeded to pop off the breast and then re-latch IN THE WRONG SPOT. I couldn't reach in and adjust without totally giving the others in the elevator an eye-full, so I just waited until we were out in the parking lot. Imagine my embarrassment over having to explain to my mom that I didn't go bra shopping after all because I had a HICKEY. To make matters worse, my husband and I went to the city to celebrate our anniversary. My sister said, "ya, surrre you got that hickey from the baby."
