Hey-
My DD started with this rash in late July. It's raised bumps, mostly flesh colored, primarily on her arms and backs of her hands. It has been on her legs and feet at times but never on her trunk or face. When it first started we had a planned visit with my immune compromised father (transplant recipient) so we went to an urgent care place rather than our family doc. (weekend). They said it was scabies. Despite no one else having the rash (co-sleeping family), we went ahead and treated everyone with the permethryn. Rash did get a little better, but I'm thinking it was actually the topical prescription strength cordosone cream that made the difference. Two weeks later, rash was nearly as bad as it was at first and they recommended repeating the treatment for scabies. We did, treated everyone, cleaned the house, etc. No big improvement was seen.
We went to our family doctor two weeks later, now into early September, six weeks from the initial rash. Our doctor said no way was it scabies, it wasn't red or the typical lesions, but flesh colored bumps. She said it was some type of contact dermatitis and recommended a topical perscription strength hyrdocordosone cream and antihistamine as well as not using any fragranced soaps, detergents, etc. We use Burts Bees and California Baby products on the kids and All Free & Clear detergent. No fabric softeners or dryer sheets or commercial skin care products.
Two weeks later, we are now a full 2 months from the initial rash onset. It has come and gone in waves but is just not getting better. I can't find anything online that looks like it, but it does most closely resemble photos of contact dermatitis.
Any ideas?? I am going back to our family doc on Monday and then probably to a dermatologist depending on what they say. It's really itchy, my daughter has scratched the tops off of the rash in several places. It is affecting her sleep. No one else has any rashes and we all co-sleep, so I am suspecting it is not contagious. We do have pets, and FWIW, they have had fleas recently. But her rash looks nothing like a bite.
Prior to this rash she had a rash on her hip for several weeks this summer that our family doc thought was fungal and had us treat with a mix of over the counter creams. It did clear up and there was about a month gap between that rash and this one. They look totally different and are affecting different places.
I need ideas! Help!
