We do, but I only use them because I have hundreds of them left over from when I was teaching. I used to order 2-3 extra subscriptions every year and pay the $4 myself for them in case I had a new kiddo come in through the year ... and I have tons of them here. All old, obviously. They are fun and cute, but I would personally not spend the $25 to get a new subscription.

We used them for fun-learning experience and supplement. Given out once a week, kids like to take them home.
The pictures are GREAT..real pictures not cartoons.
Topics are good, not media-character base.
If you are looking for a nice easy weekly sheet for your child, this is a good choice. Add it to your regular curriculum. Material presented has different age appropriate topics and an easy 2 minute activity on the back. Kids can usually do these on their own, even if they can't read.
Also gives you ideas to do with your child. And it is a quick read to your child.

If you can go in with other parents, you can get it down to aournd 6 bucks for the year. Need about 6-7 parents to participate, other wise you will have to pay the individual subscription price which could be $15 - $20 dollars.
I remember it as a kid and reading it on the bus, so thumbs up.

I get Scholastic News for my kids every year and they really enjoy it. It is very reasonable priced. I order the teachers edition (because it comes with posters and extra stuff they like) and it cost about $18 per grade level for the year. If you order just the student edition it is $3.95.

Here is a link to the first grade page with links to a sample copy. http://teacher.scholastic.com/produc...ssmags/sn1.htm

At the earliest levels, these are just non-fiction reading. As the grades progress, they are news. These are an excellant resource when kids are old enough to care about current events.
