Did you go through withdrawal? I did when I went off corn and it was pretty terrible. I had horrible headaches, extreme lack of energy, and a lot of irritability.
I would think in 72 hours you would see something change

Do you think she'll get better in the neediness department? I have a hunch it might because she's not always high needs. Sometimes she can actually hang out on the floor for half a day playing with her toys and hanging out with me and ds. Other days we can't set her down or even sit down with her in our arms. Some days car rides are tolerable and other days she's screaming the entire time.

I keep telling myself that as a bonus to her getting better that perhaps I'll lose the last 10 lbs of baby weight and maybe I'll find out if I'm sensitive to something. I have always had under eye circles so I am somewhat curious to see what I find.
Do you ever come over to our DDC "offsite"? There's alot going on over there- lots of fun! Yes, I do think she'll get better in the neediness department. And yes, you might lose those 10 lbs. And the allergic shiners will probably go away... All great incentives don't you think?

Is there something I could have instead of pears? I just don't like them. I had to force it down this morning. Is there another fruit that should hopefully be ok? I like pretty much everything else. Bananas? apples? anything?

I chose cranberries (buy the organic dried variety at Trader Joe's) and grapes. I put the cranberries on my cereal and always had a bag in my car. I drank organic concord grape juice (also from TJ's).

I also started treating his reflux at the same time. Its hard to know if the diet made the big difference or the Zantac. I still don't know exactly what ds is allergic to, but I am currently dairy, soy, and gluten-free. I am also avoiding corn, since I have had a gut feeling that ds is intolerant to it.

The first thing I did before the total elimination was buy a rice cooker and stock up on rice products. New Life Foods (near Broadway and Craycroft) has hot rice cereal (good with some sugar), organic rice cereal, rice cakes, rice pasta. Having variety (even if it is all the same) made it more tolerable. I lasted 2 months and would have gone longer, but the allergist we're working with wants to approach things differently. Ds has started having blood in his diapers again, so we may go back to TED soon.

Good luck, and if you ever want to meet up PM me
I would love to meet up, esp with dh deploying it's always nice to have someone to talk to. I'll PM you when I get a chance (i.e. if dd ever decides to take a nap today). Does the rice cereal or pasta have any corn derived products in it? I was at Trader Joe's a few months ago and all of their rice cereal had corn derived products in it (ascorbic acid, dextrose, natural flavorings, salt, citric acid, etc). Dd can't tolerate any of that stuff. Do I need to use regular rice or can I use the minute type rice? I have a steamer that also has a thing to add to it to use it to cook rice....I've just never used it before. We always just make the minute maid brown rice.

How soon do I start adding stuff back in? Is it ok that I am using some olive oil? I've heard some of you saying you use sugar? Is that ok too? Obviously it's corn free sugar. A few little extras sure would help.

I took dd with me today to the chiropractor and she was definitely out of alignment. He said she was especially tight right in the area of her spine that affects digestion so that's interesting. We'll see if the adjustment helps any.

hi ladies. looks like i'll be hanging around here for a while. DD is 5 months old and has a terrible rash all over her body. after spending hours reading about food allergies i'm almost certain that was it is. i can't believe how much i looked over her symptoms until this rash popped up. we're seeing our naturopath on Thursday and i'm off dairy at the moment. after we meet with her i'm think i'm going to go on a TED. can you recommend a good book or site to get started with?

has anyone had to deal with pumping and stored BM? i work full time and can't bear to toss my freezer stash of milk. especially since i can barely keep up with her.

What's going on? DD was looking better, so I tried to add back in soy beginning last Thursday. Yesterday saw little bits of blood, so went back off of it. Then today it's looking much better again. Could it respond to being off soy again that quickly???

I'm hungry... I'm eating too many carbs, which is bad for the thrush, but I can't seem to get enough protein even with all the quionoa I keep eating.

I think so. I remember reading a study about dairy intolerance and it said that the babies in the study reacted quickly to as little as 1 pat of butter. Sorry
post #109 of 518
We react pretty darn quick. DD's symptoms show up about 24 hours after I ingest the poison. And most of them disappear just as fast...

How bad is it that I just ate a steak? I know I shouldn't have but we spent a lot of money on them a few days ago before I knew I was going to do the TED. I didn't season mine with anything and I was "good" and just had some grilled squash with it...oh and rice milk...now, that's an interesting taste.
I'm on day 2.5 of a TED and she's spitting up a TON. Yes, last night I cheated and had a steak but it had no seasoning and we've eaten quite a few steaks in the past with no spitting up so I really don't think it's that at all. Also last night was MISERABLE. She went to bed at 8. She woke at 9:30, 1, 3, 5:30, and up for good at 7. This is much worse than her usual sleeping pattern. I am so exhausted this morning (dh and I went to bed at 11 but of course at midnight there was a huge ruckus outside which in turn woke ds and we had to spend time getting him back in bed, then I fell back asleep for about 20 mins before dd woke, etc, etc).

Dh thinks the diet is crazy. He thinks she woke up all last night because there's nothing in my milk to satisfy her which I've tried to tell him isn't true.

OTOH instead of getting better she's waking up like crazy and spitting up like mad.

So is this a normal response? Or could she actually be allergic to grain and my huge increase in rice consumption is proving it?

ETA: Her spit up is crazy this morning. We haven't had spit up problems since we eliminated corn. Now there's tons of it and it's chunky and gross. Her poop this morning looked like she peed neon green, no curds at all. She's SUPER fussy today. Everything is worse today Someone please help!

I am so sorry. Some kids are allergic to rice...who knows. Do you have any quinoa? Have you visited www.kidswithfoodallergies.org ? They have tons of great info there. They have a forum for breastfeeding. I am really thinking that your dd has reflux.
Shelsi- Is there anything you started eating on the TED that wasn't common in your diet previously? Anything that you're eating in larger quantities now? Unless the baby caught a bug then you'll need to switch the TED to something that works for you. Now I reread your post and see rice could be the culprit. I agree to switch out to quinoa. LOVE QUINOA. And as for your waking schedule- its not that out of the ordinary to wake every 1.5-2 hours to BF. But excessive spitting is a problem... And sorry to hear your DH isn't on board. Dammit, you're doing this for his angel. It isn't easy either. About POFAK, I hang out around there too. It isn't MDC (very logged in Western medicine) but there's alot of BTDT, especially in the breastfeeding forum.

Good to see you over here Meg- Sorry you're having trouble with Mia. And glad you're going to see a naturopath. We've been around the block with Taslyn... the full body rashes have a way of grabbing your attention. Ours came from two sources- lactose in Hyland's teething tabs, and my eating too much eggs, onions, garlic and celery which put us on sulfur overload. In case any of that helps. As for a helpful website, I don't know. I just did alot of reading, put it all together and took out what was useful for me.

thinking I may be joining you all soon

Hey!!! My sweet dd is just over 5 mos and we are having some issues. She has the random diaper rash that is not much of a problem but she has two spots that never go away. I use a zinc oxide cream just every so often which helps but never takes care of it all the way. Our ND gave us neonate proboitics as she thinks it is a yeast issue but when i gave her that, the rash gets much worse. Also we are knee deep in to teething and the Hylands tabs as well as lactos based chamomile and cold tabs. About 3 days ago I started noticeing a rash that is not visible but you can feel it. I know about allergies and have a few myself, I am wheat free/ gluten free, and sensitive to corn and dairy. But I have been on a 3 month bender of everything as I finally got my appitite back from being pregnant. (I only gained 16lbs and she was 8.5 of that). Is there a good place to start or any resources that you all can suggest? We also have a spit up problem, it is also so inconsistent that I can not pin point it.

Do you know if the probiotics were milk-based? Most of them are, which could be why she got worse. Solaray has an infant one that is not milk-based.
Yes they are lactose based, I just checked. I will look for Solaray, thanks!!!
Hi all. Haven't had time to read through all the posts yet so I will save my questions until I see if they've already been answered. But wanted to say it looks like I'll be joining you all and starting down that food elimination path. I've been dairy and soy free for 6 days and things really seem worse, not better. Ellie is getting a bit of dairy based formula though and refuses to take the hypoallergenic stuff. Now this morning she had a bit of blood in her stool for the first time. So I really don't think eliminating dairy and soy has taken care of it.

Sigh - BTDT once before 3 yrs ago and not looking forward to repeating it...

thanks mtn.mama. i've been mostly dairy free(didn't notice the milk in the few bits of salami i had the other day) for a week. DD rash is improving with topical Florasone cream my ND recommended. i'm still not 100% sure it's a food allergy. she's never had blood in her BM's, just stuffy nose, mucousy poop and the full body rash. our appointment is tomorrow morning. i'm very curious to see what the ND has to say. my mom asked her pendulum if DD was allergic to anything. it's said wheat but i'm a bit skeptical of her pendulum. it's says a lot of things.
Meg- I say trust the pendulum. At our house the mantra is, what does the crystal say? And as crazy as it all seems, we are healthier and happier when we listen to it. My DH comes from a right wing family who is TOTALLY supporting our method because it is working. I'm not crazy about being wheat free- but I'm willing because my baby is happy that way. Maybe the TED will show you that wheat IS bad for you. Or maybe you'll find a different answer. All I care about is the answer. Good luck Meg... I can't wait to hear good news. PS we like Florasone too. But finding the cause is better. I hope its really just dairy for you!!!!!
