As part of its ongoing commitment to putting kids and their health first, Nickelodeon is sponsoring the Fourth Annual Worldwide Day of Play. On Saturday, September 29, 2007, Nickelodeon will stop broadcasting for three hours (noon-3 p.m. ET) to encourage kids and families to get up, get outside, and play together.

We turned on Noggin this am and it took about 10 mins to figure out why it was offair!

So, is anyone doing anything for this? We are just watching PBS instead but will play, as usual, later on.

What do you think of a television station hosting a day of play and going off air to encourage play? Kinda cool, I guess, but then again it is tv that interferes with play more than anything.

How cool....I have to admit, I LIKE Noggin (commercial free)...PBS Sprout has too many commercials!

I think it's great. I don't happen to think TV is the enemy - especially if you watch it interactively with your kids and not too much. I think the problem is when parents use it for a babysitter (guilty sometimes!)....so a day of play is a cool reminder (although Saturday is the day we are least likely to watch anyway!)

Now if they would just figure it out and quit having Dora hawking those gawdawful candy bars in the cereal isle....at least Elmo is on the Nature's Best brand!

Good for Noggin! (Although I guess it's like RJ Reynolds promoting a smoke-free day...hmmm....) LOL

peace,
robyn
