Hi everyone. I'm still new on this forum but just wanted to share my waters broke 1 am this morning and i've been having contractions on and off since about 4am... they have got regular (at their most frequent, every 6 minutes) then tapered off again, then started again, but overall have got stronger and more intense. I don't mind the gradual approach but as my waters have broken the midwives at hosp (i'm booked for a home birth) are being very alarmist and saying if i'm not in well established labour by 24 hrs since the waters broke (ie 1 am tonight), i will have to be induced and given intraveneous antibiotics in hospital bc of increased infection risk...there goes home birth etc... i feel they jumped the gun with it as at 9 am this morning the midwife who rang me up wanted to actually BOOK the induction for tomorrow...made me really angry!
anyway i refused and said i'd keep them posted. i know they are just sticking to protocols but i also know from speaking to my sister in law who's a recent ex-midwife, that those protocols change all the time (usually getting stricter) and the 24 hour rule is no law of nature, it can actually be up to 92 hours before its a problem. I've been monitoring my temperature and its all good, baby movements fine and regular, just seems things are slow. drinking RLT, massaging with oils, etc etc...any advice/suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!

Not in your DDC, but I had a friend that went three days with her water broken. Her homebirth midwives didn't think it was a problem. Just had her take her temp. regularly and told her to make sure she was keeping clean and no sex, of course.

I hope your birth goes well and you avoid induction.

With my ds my water broke and my labor pattern was much like yours for awhile. My midwives told me nothing in the vagina, take lots of Vit. C, avoid public restrooms, monitor temp, and get lots of rest. I let it go at it's own pace until we had some meconium in the fluid and then we did some nipple stimulation and that really got things going. We had to keep the nipple stimulation up through a few contractions and we did some more if it tapered and I walked around a lot, but it worked for me...it made it go pretty fast.

Good luck mama! I will be hoping for no induction for you!!!
