October decluttering challenge

Thread Starter
I realize that October is on Monday so it's another day away but I wanted to get started and list my goals for October.

I only need around 500 more items to reach my goal of 2007/2007. I focused on the garage for September and I'm still working on it.

Since we have decided to downsize, I have extra motivation to declutter more than normal and take a nice, hard look at things I own.

*finish clearing out the garage
*concentrate on paper clutter
*get filing under control and limited to large filing cabinet instead of in 3 different ones and all over the house.
*declutter toys (again)
*declutter clothing (again)

I'm pretty sure I can get 500 items for October. At least, I hope so.

My goals this month:

DD's sock drawer
My sock drawer
My panty drawer
Junk drawer in the kitchen
bathroom baskets

If I get through those, I'll add more, but I'm going to be out of town for 1/2 the month, so I don't want to push it. GL everyone!

OK, I'm new to the decluttering challenges, and hoping it will help me stay motivated!

For October -

-Declutter my office
-Finish decluttering and organizing the guest bedroom/dh's office
-Rid my house of 155 objects from other rooms (not much in the grand scheme, but 5/day seems manageable to me)

Wow, September is gone already! I totally crapped out on my September goals. August was such an awesome month, and then September arrived with preschool, vacations, work, Y classes, etc. I am going to have to think about my October goals this weekend...

All I want to do this month is go through the toys and ditch plastic for the umpteenth time, and get rid of all the clothes I've been collecting that aren't my kids sizes, except for ones that will fit next year.

I'm going for it this month. I am so tired of clutter.
I'm going to focus on my sewing area, the kitchen, and toys.
Setting my sights high and shooting for 500 items.

OK I'm in. We're still trying to sellthe house so I keep getting distracted and trying to do too many things at once.

Anyway, goals I need to get done
1. List stuff in the "to ebay" box, I've already taken the pictures.
2. Go through children's clothes and get rid of ones which don't fit and won't pass down to DS

I'll probably add a couple more later in the month but I haven;'t decided on priorities yet.

I'm subbing!

My goals for now are:

1. Finish decluttering the kitchen.
2. Research storage facilities and see if it works to put the bulky things (suitcases, etc) there.
3. Finish getting the closets organized.

Will add more when those are done!

Oh, I want to join. I am taking baby steps towards a more consistantly organized house. Our home isn't unclean but I am a habitual clutterer.

I am very loosely following Flylady/motivated Moms/etc for daily to do lists. My major areas I need to work on this month are

*Master bedroom - De Junk the changing table, get rid of too small baby clothes, clean out the vanity

*Kitchen/Laundry room - Two pantries, one is kitchen stuff, one is homeschooling stuff. Gotta get them organized

*Sell stuff online as I clear out these areas, try to get $100 in Paypal. (Saving for a spinning wheel.)

Small, but attainable, along with the daily goal of not ADDING to the clutter.

I had a little garage sale snafu that messed up my plans. We're doing another on 10/13, so hopefully that will take care of the majority of the garage.

My goal, overall, is to cut the contents in the house to 1/2. Closets half full, shelves half full, etc. If I do that, I only need 1/2 the house, right? This is a goal for 12/31/07.

My goals for October are as follows:

Declutter office: paper, shredding, filing, supplies, books.
Declutter pantry: Do a pantry challenge, eat the canned things bought at the dawn of time, check the flours and stuff on the top shelf that may be growing friends.
Declutter kitchen: too much stuff to list!!!
Declutter garage: organize and pitch a ton of stuff.

I'm setting my October goal at 600. I started October on 9/28, so that's why my goal isn't 500. I'll post back and let you know how I do!

I hope its okay for me to jump in here.. im having a baby in march and we'll be moving either right before or right after baby gets here, to a MUCH smaller place (from 3 bedrooms 2baths, to 2bedrooms 2 baths, or possibly even my parents basement until we find an apartment! yikes!) So, we need to downsize.

--declutter and deep clean one room a week
week 1: living room
week 2: kitchen/hallway
week 3: master bedroom/ mommys office
week 4: closets!
--get caught up on the mountainous laundry
--finally shred the junk mail credit card stuff!

My goal for October is 200. I didn't even reach my goal of 100 last month, but things are starting to normalize here a little bit, so I think I can do 200. This month I'm hoping to declutter my magazines, books, toys, and a little bit in DH's office.

I'm in!
For October, I'm going for 500 items (should be easy enough, since we've got, like 100,000 miscellaneous, random, teeny, tiny little items to get rid of - maybe I'll just count boxes and bags instead! )

Concentrating on:
*clothes
*bookshelves
*garage #1 (of 2)
*kitchen - finish off, been slooooowly working on this one for awhile now!
*and most of all, NO NEW STUFF INTO THE HOUSE!!!! (which is challenging with all our birthdays and holidays coming up)

I'm gonna cheat and start working today!

Oh I have to join again. I think this month I'm just going for areas to clean instead of numbers. It was distracting last month to try to count things when I was on a roll. Hopefully we'll be buying a new house in a 6-8 weeks (should finalize an offer this week sometime i hope). I'll need to start cleaning and packing. If we do I don't want to move all this crap plus the new house is WAAYYY bigger than this one so I want to start with it decluttered and clean and hope to stay that way (yeah right I'll be back here every month) but that's the goal!

TARGET AREAS:
Office:
sort paperwork
organize file cabinets
clean off bookshelves
organize craft supplies
clean off desk

Living Rm:
clean off end table
clean out coffee table

Kitchen: clean off table

Bedrm: clean off shelves

I will do some items: 0/100 items

I may add more later after I finish some of this. I'm starting to get overwhelmed already just writing it all down!
