How much do you spend yearly on clothing for yourself? - Page 5

That seems so strange to me. Being proud of how much you do or do not spend on clothes.... If someone said they spent a few thousand a year and they were proud they'd have their butt handed to them in seconds.

Not that I care either way. Just an observation.

this year probably $WAY,TOM,UCH : mostly because of my new job (no more scrubs )

however, it WILL be my new years commitment to NOT go to the mall. i have a bad habit of getting sucked in!! i went to GoodWill the other day and found some sweaters. im doing better with that spending. most of it comes from DH going to Iraq. i have to find a way to "fill" time so i go to the mall. that IS NOT going to happen this time!

i have a new plan. every time i want to spend money on cloths... i add up what i am going to buy and put it in savings! i really want to stay home when i have kiddos so far it is working

ETA:took out my amount i really dont want to be judged! not in the mood.

And I'm just thinking...I wonder how many women who brag they are wearing 10 year old pants and buy $4 bras (those things can do you some DAMAGE, ouch!) are the same ones who buy Kissaluvs at $10 a piece and $40 WAHM covers and three $90 mei tais...

Next to nothing really. Maybe $20 a year? I have a hard time buying anything for myself. I have a hard time spending money period.

I see the two as completely different circumstances. Why shouldn't I be proud of myself for spending as little money as possible when every where I go I see advertisements trying to get me to spend my money on their product. I have very little money and when it seems like every company out there is trying to weasel it out of me I am very proud to hold on to it. My ability to resist is what I am proud of.

I'm sure other people have different values and may be proud of spending exorbitant amounts of money. Personally I would not. But alas I do not have lots of money. Maybe I would feel differently if I did though I highly doubt it.

I hear you. They just plain DO NOT make my size at most manufacturers. You CAN'T buy it at K-mart or Wal-Mart. I have to either buy Le Mystere or order from overseas.

Probably near ÂŁ1000.00. I love clothes, I love buying them. My clothes bill has gone up over the past year though since I started working in Banking. My two main places for shopping is NEXT and Dorothy Perkins, and occasionally Wallis. Not sure if you have NEXT or Dorothy P in the U.S? All bras are bought from Marks & Spencer, because they measure me properly and make sure that I have the correct bra.

Peace

Hmm...wow, let's see.

Shirts and pants, bras, underwear...I usually spend about a hundred bucks, twice a year, so I'd say 200 dollars a year on that stuff.

20-30 on a swimming suit every summer.

I rarely buy shoes. Maybe 50 dollars a year on shoes.

So... maybe 280-300 a year altogether.

This year about $200 including my annual pair of really supportive running shoes. But that is significantly more than normal because I finally decided to retire a bunch of ratty clothes. So I bought three items at retail prices and then a bunch of jeans and turtlenecks at the thrift store. Oops I forgot that I replaced my worn out broomball shoes so that adds about $60.

I have no idea how much exactly, but I am guessing about $1,500- $2,000 a year? :

I like to look stylish! Plus I like nice, well made shoes, which tend to be expensive. I also like to replace bras every year or so, which can be very costly.

My tempation is not so much buying clothes ,but buying fabric. I also buy from garage sales and at times from Good will. But I love to sew and I buy fabric for 1-2$ a yard. A few weeks ago I sewed a simple skirt from 2 yard in less than 1 hour. So I spend only 2$. 3 weeks ago I went tothe garment district in LA. I have never seen so much fabric at one place. And a lot of fabric for 1 or 2$ a yard. And also inexpensive thread. I did spend over 50$ there ,but that included ca big 17 threads for 1or 1,25$ And from part of the fabric( chiffon) I sewed 2 blouses for me and also my friend. I just love to get as much as possible from fabric. At times I have to add some different fabric to a clothing piece but that looks often even more interesting. The things I sew the most are nursing clothes and clothes to dance in.I have spend ca 10-20$ in fabric a months.I do have a lot of clothes , some are 10- 20 years old. For shoes I have some birks I bought in Germany and wear all the time and also some cheeper once. I probably get 1 pair a year. ( well last year I bought 3 , 2 cost only 6 or 8$)I love hand me downs, also for my children and my husband wears uniform most the time, so he does not need much.

My bras alone are $45+.

I did have a few years where I spent NOTHING, but that was because I just wore all the stuff I bought years before. On Credit Cards. And was still paying for it.
That. I buy expensive shoes because I have fat flintstone feet and wide sizes that don't fall off my heel are hard to find. Bras that fit are expensive too.

If I like something and it fits, though, I wear it for literally years. All my flip flops are crocs because the cheapies fell apart after a few wearings and these can even go through the washing machine.

I expect I'll be spending less on clothes in the coming years with no job interviews or seasonal weather to deal with.

There were years in the past when I probably spent less than $100 on clothes/shoes for myself. I got a lot of hand-me-downs from relatives, and I was happy to wear the clothes I already had in my closet.

But lately I decided that I need to take better care of myself. I don't know if I'm vain or self-centered or just human... but I am happier in general when I feel attractive. So I've been making an effort to take care of myself lately- including better grooming, nicer clothes, exercising REGULARILY. Not only do I feel better about myself when I'm well dressed, but I've found that I'm treated with more respect by others, and DH appreciates my efforts as well.

I haven't really kept track, but I'd guess that I spend around $100-$150/month on myself, on average. So obviously I'm not spending money on high-end items, but OTOH I'm trying not to buy clothes that will be unwearable after only one season.

fek&fuzz- OMG, the eileen fisher stuff is beautiful there aren't any stores near me though... bummer.

I have spent years, in two marriages, neglecting myself and I vowed a few years ago that I would spend more on myself when possible. I vowed to take care of myself and buy things for myself when I could afford it. And I do. I will be completely honest and say I like to look nice. I don't shop designer but I like a simple, classic look and I try to maintain that.

No, not that at all. Nor am I bragging or ashamed. I'm just not into clothing. The income I have for 'wants' goes for books or music or horseback riding, not fancy clothes. As long as I'm not naked in public clothing is very far down on my list.

I'm not putting myself last in any way, believe me.

I have no idea. I want to look good, and I have a simple style. The only expenses I regret are the ones that turned out to be less great than I expected.

I used to buy very few clothes for myself in the past, and lean towards cheap and low quality. Luckily my DH has prodded me into investing more into my clothes. Why not own more than the bare minimum of pairs of pants? Why not have the majority of my clothes be decent looking? Why not buy an individual piece (shirt or whatnot) that costs more than the usual minimum, now and then, if it really looks extra good and is still practical? --I am after all getting extra value out of it. Dressing is an art, and even if it's a somewhat mundane one, that's no reason to ignore it completely, it's there to be enjoyed.

OTOH, one thing that has held me back is that shopping can be a pain and sometimes the stores don't have good selections.

Under 50 I'm sure. this year I bought a new bra for I think 12 dollars and I know I have purchased 2 packages of underwear.
For me I feel like if I buy clothes for myself I am being too indulgent and I HATE that. I always think about what else we could do with the money and I just end up putting stuff back if I am shopping.
It has to be HUGE need..like holes and stuff. I think it's a terrible trait and I wish I could buy myself more clothes.

Hey, feel free to send me some of their clearance stuff.

I've never seen NEXT or Dorothy P here. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing them when I was living in England. Then again, it's not as if I had tons of money to shop then, either. LOL.
I'll have to see if those stores are online. To see how stylish you are.
