lip balm blunder

I tried to make lip balm using a beeswax base and then adding color and flavor. I poured it into the little pots and when it was done it was as hard as a candle; not spreadable at all! Was there something else I was supposed to add to the wax, or is something just wrong with the base? Anyone else have better recipies they would like to share? Thanks!

You definitely need to add some oil to the beeswax. Basically, it sounds like you made tasty, scented wax. You should be able to re-melt, throw it back in the pot, and add some oil.

I think there are recipes at www.luxurylane.com

a good basic lip balm recipe is
1 part oil (almond, avacado, whatever you like...)
1 part butter (shea, mango or cocoa..or some other kind)
1 part beezwax. (you can use calendula or soywax too from what I understand for vegan lipbalm)

OK!

I re-melted the wax and added a big glop of olive oil, then poured it again and it's more spreadable but kind of greasy and grainy, and doesn't give any shine or soothing feeling to the lips. Maybe I will try the almond oil.
