If you have a website, who is your host?

My site package is about to expire. I use Network Solutions and pay $120/year and I'm fairly happy with them, except I really don't know of any other companies out there... who do you use? Do you like them?

I liked www.godaddy.com. We had some issues with email that I think didn't have anything to do with them, so my partners outvoted me and we switched to Yahoo. It's very expensive and their customer service is terrible. I really don't like them. The only thing I like are the detailed web stats. I wish we'd stayed w/ godaddy. FWIW, I've been having tons of email problems with Yahoo as well.

Web Serve Canada has some great prices, support all forms of platforms used (linux, windows, database, java programing, cgi, perl, ect)

I believe they host both Canadian and American sites. They do domain registration, they use the Plesk user interface and they have from starter packages all the up to extremely pro packages. Every 4 months I was paying 40 dollars CAD. They have 1 month, 4month, 6 month and 1 \2\5 year payment plans (the yearly ones you pay for a whole 1\2 or 5 years up front if you want to and only have to worry about yearly domain renewal if you didn't do your domain name with them).

(I do web developing and graphics design home based business, not the same as you ladies but I thought I would throw the Web Serve out there for any of you looking for flexible services)

I have lunarpages and I love them. I have been with them for several years. I pay slightly less then you are at around $100.

We tried lunarpages but had a lot of trouble. I can't remember what it was though!
When I first started with lunarpages I had issues - as I didn't really know what I was doing, but their tech department was great and helped and now I have had zero issues with them. Like I said I have had them for years.

Just out of curiousity, what problems did you have?
Like I said, I can't remember what the issues were. We weren't there very long. Part of it was probably figuring out what the heck we were doing. This is my website. When I started, I knew nothing about building websites or how these things worked so there was a pretty steep learning curve! I'm sure that had a lot to do w/ the lunar pages issues we had.

I use JaguarPC. We had some problems a while back (about 5.5 years ago), but that was when their servers were mostly co-located with another company. Because of the huge mess (many sites were down for 3 or more days, including ours, and the backups were corrupted too, so lots of people lost data permanently if they hadn't been backing up on their own), they speeded up their plans to build their own NOC. Never had a problem since.

Also, during that whole fiasco, I sent an email to support asking about the data for my particular site. I got a personal reply with a timestamp of like 3-something a.m. from one of the main guys who was working on getting the problem fixed. They were also all over their forums keeping people updated on what they'd found out, how much longer, yadda yadda. Oh, and although their policy is to give people free comp time to make up for downtime if it exceeds X hours, because this was such a HUGE f-up they offered us all the option of a free lifetime upgrade of disk space (which I took, though it was outmoded a couple of years later when their package pricing changed and I got about 5x the space for the same price ;-).

We pay about $100/year, and our site supports PHP, MySQL, unlimited email addresses, 1 GB disk space, lots of scripting options, tons of tools... probably more than you'll ever need ;-). The control panel is pretty easy to use to upload files, create email addresses and subdomains, etc. I highly recommend them. I've had my account with them for... um... probably 7 years now.

I use WatersWebHosting.net.... a WAHM, I heard about her here. I've had my website hosted by them for three years now. Great prices too.

I use DirectNIC: http://www.directnic.com/
$30 a year for both the domain name and bannerless hosting. Great deal if you don't need anything fancy.

we also do Godaddy for domain and hosting. there isn't anything I have found that it can't do. No banners, and the helpline is 24hrs and can even talk ME through almost anything...

I use godaddy for my site (birthmarkdoula.com) and yahoo for a local site (chicodoulas.com). I have never had any issues with godaddy, i love them. Yahoo hosting pretty much sucks, but I am locked in for a while...that's what i get for trying something new.

I use dot5hosting for domain name and hosting. I get 5 GB of space. The only problem I have ever had is this year they tried to bill me for two years at a time. I got on live chat and told them I am billed yearly and can't afford two years at a time. He contacted billing and fixed it. I think I pay only $60 a year. For stats I highly recommend statcounter.com. They are awesome. Free, can use invisible stat counter if you want, and has great reports.

Oh my gosh! Why doesn't every business with a website know about statcounter.com??? THANK YOU 1sttimestar. I signed up and wow! I bet it'd even be worth paying for the more advanced programs that track for more hits. That site is fantastic! Perfect timing too, because our monthly newsletter went out today. Very cool!
