Any Vegans TTC? - Page 3

hi oceane and amylaz- everyone! i've been eating lots of greens- and yumming up nature's path optimum power cereal. so, i hope i'm good on the folic acid.

http://www.naturespath.com/products/.../optimum_power

i'd like to find a good prenatal vitamin to fill in any blanks though. anyone? i'm looking for hopefully a vegan prenatal that is made from organic, whole foods. the closest i have come to this is perfect prenatal from new chapter but it's not vegan because of the way they derive their vitamin d.

"New Chapter’s Probiotic Nutrients™ Made with Organic Ingredients do not meet strict vegan standards. The Lactobacilli acidophilus culture used in the second stage of our unique food culturing process is originally grown in its favorite environment, milk. However, the organisms are separated from the dairy growth medium prior to their addition to the Probiotic Nutrients culturing medium. Additionally, the vitamin D* utilized for culturing with organic whole food ingredients in our vitamin D-containing products is derived from wool wax"

...and perfect prenatal, unfortunately contain this l. acidophilus and vitamin d.

what if any prenatal vitamin are you using? i may just end up blending vitamin packed green smoothies.

also, anyone using nutru's o-mega-zen3 for their dha? i'm also eating lots of blended flax and putting them in my salads and enjoying living harvest hemp milk.

okay, that was a lot of stuff for one post. as you can see- i've got some questions and concerns. i'm not sure i've got all my bases covered. but i'll save it all for another post!

I use Deva Vegan Prenatal and Deva Vegan Omega-3 DHA (derived from algae). I also make smoothies with soymilk, frozen fruit, and flaxseed oil.

I'm in Germany, so I know none of the supplements you mention: I think i've seen people mention rainbow lights as vegan multivitamins. not sure though. I am currently only taking a folic acid/b12/b6 suppl, don't want to overdo it. for dha I will buy something, but for now it's flax seeds (grounded) and flax seed oil in smoothies. why can I not get hemp milk here??? : I guess any dha is fine, there shouldn't be that much of a qualitative difference...

Just FYI, Kashi Heart to Heart cereal is fortified with B6, B12, Vit E, and Folic Acid. It's completely vegan and is one of my favorite snacks!

Good morning good women!

I am not sure if I have talked about my thyroid issues on this thread alrady but thyroid plays a big part in TTC. Your TSH should ideally be between .8 and 2.2 vn though the "normal range" that most doctors will tell you is much broader than that. I never accept that my results are "normal", I always ask for the number. HTHs someone!

I love this thread,

Today I am 12 DPO and my temp went up slightly but it is bouncing around betwen 36.7 and 36.9 C and it needs to be higher than that at this point for me to be PG so I am sure I will be on to Cycle 5 this weekend. Then a bunch of tests next week.

My sister is in labour so I'm going to be an aunt, finally!!!!!

Blessings to you all and welcome to the newbies!

i will definitely check out the deva vitamins and i rainbow light... i've used that brand before- but not their prenatals.

thanks for the tip on the kashi cereal, amy. i'll be trying that!

oh, good luck veganmomma! and congrats on becoming an auntie!

how do we get this thread to become a sticky?!

I've gotta jump in here and say that folic acid is on the bottom of my list for supplements, since I know my normal diet contains over 4 times the recommended amount for pregnant women, another plus of a vegan diet! I tracked my usual diet for a few weeks on Fitday and my folic acid intake was through the roof thanks to all the leafy greens, whole grains, oj, etc.

I use Deva and VegLife brands primarily.
Oh, and AllFlora for probiotics.

Agreed. I like a little extra "insurance," though, especially if my diet becomes not all that it should be during the morning sickness stage

it's off topic but do you know how I can terminate my account there?

No idea, sorry.

Since the birth defects folic acid is intended to prevent usually occur before most women even know they are pregnant I don't worry too much. I usually start puking between 6-8 weeks after that critical time : . Gosh I hate being pregnant!

: I usually start feeling queasy just before I miss AF and find out I'm pregnant. Have you ever tried Sea Bands accupressure bands?

Yeah, I think I've tried every vegan method out there. I took the Unisom/B6 combo during my third pregnancy it got so bad.
Maybe I noticed a slight difference with the sea bands, but I recall many times leaning over a bowl staring at those things on my wrists : .
Eh, supposedly morning sickness indicates a healthy pregnancy : .

It must be weird dreading and hoping for the pregnancy at the same time...

For me, yes. I'm really trying to psyche myself up 6 months early to be somewhat excited about the prospect. I love giving birth and having the baby, but wow do I ever wish someone else could be pregnant for me!

I can't wait to hear everyone's pregnancy announcements, hopefully a long time before I make mine!!

I was sick as a dog with my DD too. I threw up every day from week 6 to week 20.
The B6/unisom combo helped a lot (I only threw up once a day instead of all day).
Alas the unisom nighttime is no longer available in Canada since there is low demand. If I get PG again I will have to drive to the US to get some.

Well, I was right, my sister is having a LOOOOOOONG labour like me. She was at 7 cm at 11 am this morning having just accepted an epidural. I am guessing that slowed her down because it is now 5 hours later and I haven't heard anything.
She has been in pre-labour or labour since 1 am Tuesday morning.

I did go get her a TENS machine yesterday (after having suggested it all along) and got her hooked up with that which helped her a lot with the pain. At least it may have prevented her from going to the hospital super early, getting an early epidural and then likely (given our slow labours) a C-section.

I am so anxious waiting for some news. I might just go to the hospital and wait.

In answers to a question earlier in the thread, no she is not vegan and no where near as crunchy as me! I am the older sister, take charge, do my own research, independant type. She is the typical adored, loved and spoiled youngest child,

Oh I forgot, I am 13 DPO and temps down slightly again this morning. I am sure I am heading for CY 5 on the weekend and then a bunch of testing next week (bloodwork, u/s and new type if HSG).
I hope your sister gets a happy healthy birth.

I'm an aunt! Noah arrived after 42 hours of labour (my sister takes after me I guess!) and he was 8 lb 11 oz. Big for a first baby no?
I'm off to see him this afternoon.

AFM, 14 DPO, looks like AF will show later in the day tomorrow as my temps haven't quite dropped below the coverline yet.

Have a great, fertile day everyone.
