I want to make nursing pads for a gift help

I have flannel, hemp fleece and pul. (she wants waterproof)...

Should I serge them or turn and top stitch? I did one like that and it looks weird. Plus then I have to sew thru the pul layer making it leakable.

I was going to do a 4 layers of flannel one layer pul. or 3 layers hemp fleece one layer of pul.

Does this sound good?

Wow - that sounds like a LOT of layers to me.

I sew mama pads with a top layer of flannel, two layers of hemp fleece, one layer PUL and a back layer of fleece and they contain overnight flow!

I'd say if you have a soft thread, serging should be fine.
