IGavin Rutgar came into the world on Sept 20th at 10:17pm at home after 5 hours of labor with 49 minutes of pushing. He weighed 7lbs even and was 20" long.
The placenta took a while longer and due to bleeding I ended up transporting by ambulance to the hospital.
Birth story will soon follow with pics!
Here is the birth story:
My mom flew in from NC on the 19th so I told my belly that he could come whenever he wanted now. So, on Sept 20th I felt kinda crampy and decided that I was officially on maternity leave. DH, my mom and I went to Costco to get stocked up on food and stuff.
After shopping we went home for lunch. I was sitting on the floor and stood up and my forewater broke. I called the midwife. No big deal, just keep her posted.
My DH and mom went out to get some things at the health food store. While they were gone I was doing some pelvic movements while on my hands and knees because the baby had been ROP for all of my pregnancy and thought "well of something is happening I better see if this baby wants to turn".
All of a sudden a GUSHER! My bag of waters burst! (thank goodness I was not at Costco!)
I ran into the bathroom and jumped in the tub, I did take the phone with me. Tossed off my soaked sweatpants and stood dripping in the tub. Amniotic fluid was clear. Called the MW and she told me to keep her posted, that my contractions would start within the hour.
Called DH and told him the news. My mom and DH came right home. DH found me cleaning the bathtub because it was dirty and I figured to something productive while dripping there.
My contractions started about 45 minutes later. And they immediately were contractions that I couldn't talk through. That was really confusing! And they were about 5 minutes apart at first, but moved to about 3 minutes apart after that. While I'm dealing with contractions in the bathroom, DH and my mom were frantically putting plastic down in the bedroom and moving furniture and trying to get the birthpool set up.
After the bed was ready DH got the headphones and my hypnosis CD's for me. I lied there and got myself relaxed as best possible.
In the meantime my mom was getting Chicken soup made for everyone and DH was trying to set up the birthpool, light candles and get other music choices ready. About 45 minutes later the hypnosis CD's were getting on my nerves and I needed support through my contractions. Where the hell was everyone! My mom and DH would switch off giving me support while they were busy doing their jobs. At one point I yelled to DH "where are you! I need you here now!!!!" He was trying to tackle a small flood he created in the bathroom because the hose connection was not fitting right and there was about an inch of water on the bathroom floor. He yells back "I'm trying to set up the pool!" I yell back "FORGET THE POOL! I NEED YOU HERE NOW!"
At this point DH notices that I am bleeding a little. He calls the MW and she is on her way along with her assistant. I was already in transition and I don't know exactly what time that was. All I remember at this point was, DH put on some Celtic Harpistry music and I thought how perfect it was. The assistant showed up and told me I was doing great. My MW showed up and then everything was happening. At some point my MIL showed up and she was in charge of taking photos.
I remember feeling really hot and DH was putting really cold wash cloths on my head. I was laboring in all sorts of positions trying to get the baby down. Finally my MW told me I need to start pushing and she wanted me to do it on the a birthing stool. So that what I did. That was intense! My MW was coaching me on bearing down and she wanted me to take it slow so that I wouldn't tear. Pushing was the hardest part. And I had no idea that the Ring of Fire was going to last about an hour! UGH! That part was most unpleasant. All could think was I wanted to get it over with. I felt every inch of his head moving ever so slowly down. And at one point I felt his little body suck back up after a contraction. That was weird!
I remember my DH really having me concentrate on his eyes. His deep blue eyes were my saving grace and his voice with his words of encouragement. The MW takes my hand and has me feel the baby's head crowning. Wow that was intense! Then DH says, I have to go catch the baby. I was leaning on the side of the bed to deliver him. When his head emerged, his little hand was right there next to his face. My MW told me to lift my leg and once I did that, his little body slid right out into DH's hands. He almost couldn't hold him because he was so slippery. Baby began crying immediately and pinked right up. I laid down on the floor and they put baby right on top of me. I was in complete relief.
Baby was born at 10:17pm and his apgars were 9 and 10.
I will update with placenta experience soon. Baby is getting restless here in my lap.
