READ IF YOU DARE ~ Would you consent to an internal...

if you'd had sex the night before? :
(can we bypass the debate on whether internals are ok or not for today?)

I really don't know if my midwife will want to do one today...part of me is hoping for a little stretch and sweep, but last night DH and I did the deed, and I have that lovely "Old Sex" smell that even a long hot shower won't get rid of (and yes, I read that lovely thread in TAO last night about smells...)

The only reason I'm even thinking about going ahead with the internal is because my midwife keeps insisting I have lots and lots of sex, so really, it's her fault, right? Of course I plan to do what I can about my lovely smell regardless...I'm just wondering what my game plan should be for my appt tonight

Ah, ode de sex.

I'm sure she will expect some after sex smell since she is encouraging it.

I have a love/hate relationship with internals. Part of me likes to hear I am doing something but the other part gets mad when nothing has changed.

Heck go for it! Believe me, your midwife would rather smell "old sex" than some of the other smells she's encountered, I'm sure.

I just did this myself right before Hazel was born. I figured they've seen it all, and hey, I knew I wouldn't be getting any for a long while.. so. And, she didn't say anything.
Good for you that y'all "dtd"

I wouldn't worry about it - I'd have the internal if I wanted. Not like any smell from there is so great and fresh. I'm sure she's used to it.

Yeah, you actually think she hasn't smelled the worst smells yet? How about washing up in the bathroom right before your appt and changing your undies at that point?

LOL oh Stacey!

I dunno, I mean, I know my m/w will be suggesting the same thing, so if there's gonna be an internal, I guess it's to be expected! But I would definitely think the same thing!

my midwife just gave us the same homework this morning

my dh refused to dtd last night because of the exact thing you described but she said she actually wishes we would have - lol (my poor dh's face has never been more red - it cracked me up!!! the midwife said all this in front of the nursing student she is training! which was double the mortification for him! roflmbo)

I had a sweep done but she said there was really nothing to sweep - everything is favorable with me (my blood pressure was high - nothing else "wrong" though) - baby just needs to keep moving down south :

I would get the internal! Consider it a second opinion of if he's doing it right! He/she may have pointers! I'm using alot of exclamation points because I'm jealous of all you gals getting action.

P.S. Jamie, I sat next to you in the waiting room this morning! Then I fell asleep half naked in the exam room while she was with you guys!!

I vote yes!!

Oh yeah, she's asking for it, so she'll probably take the smell as a good sign.

you guys make me laugh and feel so much better...

and pbjmom, that cracked me up about your DH! It was pretty dumb to think I'm the only one going through this, I guess

I have and I've never really thought about it. It isn't like she sticks her face way in there while she is checking. Unless mine is doing it wrong.

I was breathing a bit of a sigh of relief yesterday (even though I asked about it) when my midwife didn't do an internal exam, I was wondering if she would know I'd diddled myself at lunch time in hopes of moving things along. (Oh goodness, it sounds funny when I put it that way, lol.)

OMG how would she be able to tell?

well, considering many women poop while they are pushing the baby out they probably think nothing of it.

Maybe if things are a little more moist than normal or something? I don't know, lol. But it didn't work, no baby yet!

I'd just say~~ "I took your advice, I had sex last night" and .
My mw encourages sex too and last week I apologized for possibly smelling like pee because I had coughed a while before and a pad can only hold so much . She smiled and said, "please, I'm a mw , scents don't bother me ".

Have I mentioned I loove her?

Of course we have a very frank and open conversatiion at every visit.

My midwife told me to "not have oral sex" once my water breaks. *laughs* I couldn't help it, I said "well, since i don't like it, no problem there."

having done internals on other people, I have to say, I have never stuck my nose close enough to notice 16 hour old sex smell.

I say go ahead if you want it
