Nothing I can't see by twirling around in my chair. wink1.gif

Looks great!  I'm feeling inspired to tackle another part of our place.  Not the office, though, as that is dh's stuff.  I figure letting people see a mess just makes them feel better about their own homes.  It's like a public service. lol.gif

I'm a newbie. This thread is sooooo inspiring.  I moved into my house 4 months ago, and my decluttering is going in baby steps. I have donated 4 bags of clothes/misc. items to the salvation army/goodwill. My house is still cluttered, though. :(

Aw that sucks but wtg on donating 4 bags! That's a great start!

yes, it is a process. and HAS to be an ongoing process. Otherwise the stuff keeps coming in.

I'm going to post some "before" pics. Last weekend we cleared out our dining room. "AFTER" coming as soon as I get home from work to take the pics.

Here is our playroom. I got rid of the bed and put her swing in the corner now. I took the cover off the love seat (you can see a tiny bit of it in the one pic) and we just have an armchair and loveseat now, dark green faux suede. I am a bit overwhelmed with the decals and unhappy they are PVC ;( , but I can't find an EVA / PEVA ones.

How do you keep your kids artwork hanging on that little thing? I don't see any pins. My kids have a tonnnnnn of artwork that they like shown off but my poor fridge can't take any more.

Awesome, great job!!!

D'OH. I see the little clip things now that I clicked the pic to make it bigger. Will have to try that out!

And after.

In the interest of keeping it real, I've left a few random items out. We don't have a first floor closet but if I leave the vacuum out in the dining room my husband will vacuum 3 times a week at least. Move that sucker to the basement and it's just too hard. ergo, vacuum is out. It usually lives in the corner that I hope to hang hooks in.

IMG_3342.jpg

Cleared off the table, window frame. You can see my black computer bag on the floor. It doesn't always live there but I just took the computer out of the case. Green backpack on its way to a new home and is sitting on the table so that when Peter comes by he'll have a new backpack for preschool. Top of the red bookshelf = stuff that is not mine, but needs to find a new home.

IMG_3341.jpg

Desk converted from giant pile of stuff that my husband keeps stuffing on there to holding kids' art supplies and a few items my dh needs to return tomorrow. Kids and I agreed to share said desk. Desk has always held kids' hair stuff. I hate the bookshelves over the desk, but they work and hold important stuff that I use regularly.

Artwork is indeed help up by clips -- it's actually a curtain rod sold by ikea. My kids never want to throw anything away. Displaying it in the art gallery softens the blow when it is time to recycle. My husband likes to thrust their stuff onto the art table, making it un-useable (this is a theme). And my kids are outgrowing the art table. 1-2 more years and I suspect we'll replace this with a desk. It isn't pretty in my dining room, but I like the idea of the previous owners of computers/desk spaces in the public areas of the house for kids.

This area is a work in progress. My kids have coat hooks in the front entrance area (tiny room). But they are getting bigger and now their coats drag on the floor. I envision this wall becoming our "mud room". At least until we have 20,000 dollars to build an actual mudroom to receive our stuff. The box contains backpacks when they come home from school. The cabinet in the middle is going someplace out (but as soon as I cleared out the space my husband moved it in this corner). It will contain our liquor cabinet + special glasses. I saw one at crate and barrel that I really liked but I don't drink that much. This is an old record (LP) cabinet I picked up for 20 bucks. And lastly we live in an area where we take shoes off at the door. This basket holds the shoes.

Calliope84, that is such a sweet space for your little one to play! Nice. :)

kerc, GREAT work! You got so much done! Seems like your room functions nicely. Enjoy it!

Anybody have pics of their clean, clear closets (especially hall closets??). I've got one looming on my to do list....maybe I'll take a before pic and it will inspire me to do what needs to be done for an after pic.

Calliope84 Oh my goodness that is BEAUTIFUL!!! Looks like such a calm relaxing place to sit with her and play. I love the simplicity/minimalism and the decor style. I love the decals as well! Never realized they were PVC (have some on my wishlist ;)- but I think they are good because the room is minimally furnished otherwise it would look really bare. You could always just remove a few- but personally I think it looks great.

Thanks! I wish my whole house was like this. I am in the process of simplifying the rest of my home. ;)

my hall closet is scary biglaugh.gifI really need to declutter it but most of the stuff in there is stuff I CAN'T get rid of {winter coats/sentimental stuff}

Kerc-great job! I'd leave the vacuum there too. I bet my kids would love an "art gallery" area. I know I would-I'm running out of room and being overran by papers. What do you do w/the art once its time in the art gallery is over?

I'm thinking of redoing mine too. Maybe adding some wood shelves to replace the wire one in there now. My front hall/utility closet:

I just finished putting in closet systems in our two master closets. We "hacked" a couple PAX (IKEA) systems:

Wow! Beautiful Coconut Chronicles.

Coconut Chronicles....all I can say after looking at those amazing photos is... jaw.gif  Very nice.

Aww thanks ladies... neither closet in the master was an efficient use of space before those systems were put in. It took 3 days to do both closets and it costs less to go with IKEA's Pax frames than the Allen + Roth closet systems we were looking at at Lowes!

I love this thread... One of these days I'm going to stop being lazy and post pics of our whole house.
