Reactions to zoloft?

I was given zoloft for my ppd, and since I have been taking it, my milk production seems to be going down. I actually had an oversupply before, and the only thing I am doing differently is taken the med. Dd is doing fine so far, but I am not able to pump much at all - whereas I was pumping quite well before - and I still work parttime, so pumping is a pretty big deal. Anyone else had this, and what can I do other than take the zoloft? I've tried the vitamins, and they help, but my concern is being at work with the panic attacks still coming regularly. Any advice is welcome!

I never noticed a supply drop while I was on it. Maybe your body has just learned what it needs to make and has settled down. You should eat oatmeal every day if you can and maybe go on fenegreek.

Milk supply is usually not an issue with zoloft. Wellbutrin, on the other hand, can cause a decrease in milk supply.

I think it gets harder to pump as you go on. I could not get ANYTHING when I tried to pump once my ds was 6 months or so... but he obviously got plently of milk as I nursed him to 19 months.

I would talk to your psych about this and see if it could be causing the problem... but I would also give yourself at least two weeks to see if things go back to normal. Zoloft can cause dry mouth (which I am guessing is due to dehydration), so up your water intake if you can.

Actually I've read on Dr. Hale's website that it can indeed affect milk supply, not in all women but it's not unheard of. I would try and take something like mothers milk tea in conjunction with fenugreek (or something similar to help milk supply) to see if it helps.

Although your baby is almost 3 mths old, right? Around 2 months, your milk supply actually regulates itself. You won't feel "full" anymore and might stop leaking. Pumping might become more difficult. This is normal. I second eating oatmeal (or other galactagotes) if you need to pump. If your child is fine, then I truly would not worry, I'm sure it's more a coincidence than a direct effect from Zoloft.

I actually stopped taking the zoloft a few days ago, and I have a significant increase in my milk already. I had tried the suggestions before posting, and was not getting what I needed. I think I need to explore other meds with my doc, and have been letting my coworkers know what my situation is. Fortunately I work in a supportive environment, and can take breaks if I get an attack. Anything other than meds that I can do in the meantime? I just want my body to even out so this can be behind me!

I had a decrease when I started the Zoloft about 3 weeks ago. I just have to drink ALOT of water and I am nursing every hour. Pumping every hour really would not be practical at work though. Hope everything works out for you.
