Still here... was due on Sept 20th... and will be induced tomorrow if things don't get started on their own today. We've tried EVERYTHING and I'm hoping this isn't a sign of some super stubborn personality we've created!

Hoping all of you go alot sooner than I've had to wait... 14 days and counting!

Good luck mama! FWIW, my 2nd son was induced at 42 weeks and he is stubborn but also the sweetest little kiddo around. And he's pretty mellow.

Still here. I was due on the 30th.

I am doing a hospital birth. Now, being overdue, I'm starting to feel anxious. They had me go in for some tests this morning and my pregnancy is starting to feel so medicalized. I just want to go into labor on my own soon so I don't have to be induced.

Hey, still here

I had ctx for 5-6 hours on monday afternoon, following a mw appt where I asked for a dilation check and had my membranes stripped, but none since then. I did seem to loose my mucous plug tues/wed, so I guess that is something...

But now, I really want to wait until sunday anyway, b/c my dh will be at the farmers market all day saturday (he'll stay home/come home if I'm in labor of course!) and one of my mw's will be out of town at a wedding.

pisces-in-vt, I'm in VT too, where are you?

Still here...I'll be 42 weeks on Monday. My midwife will let me go longer but I have to have two ultrasounds a week beginning Tuesday to "cover her butt." I really hope he comes before that.

Here I am! 42 + 4 days!

Mw is very relaxed and I feel great....just trying to not let it get to my head!

Arrgghh

Still here... 42 weeks today! (EDD was Sept. 23) Looks like I'm gonna have to go in for another non stress test on monday to make sure everything's okay. We're planning a home water birth so I'm starting to get nervous about the pressure of being induced at the hospital because of all of the post-term "risks" that keep getting thrown in my face. We went in Friday and everything seemed to be fine but the Dr. still suggested induction if I didn't deliver by week 42. Has anyone else had this problem? How do you stand your ground and trust the natual process of labor and birth without letting medical ideas and opinions affect you? I need some encouragement! My Dr. wants to induce Monday (probably pitocin) but I really feel like if the baby hasn't come by then it's just because he's not ready yet. The time ahs to be near. At the same time I want to be responsable and make sure we're doing the best thing for our baby's health. How much past 42 weeks is safe?

I so want the homebirth I've been planning but am starting to let the Dr.'s words get to me and getting anxious... Any encouraging words would be MOST appreciated.

Earthmama, I so understand your predicament as it was mine with ds #1.

In fact the experience really changed how I picked a mw this time around b/c it was very important to me that I not have to deal with stress coming from my mw or having a a totally healthy pregnancy only to have a bunch of fear thrown at me during my last weeks of pregnancy.

So this might help you to feel better. With ds #1 everyone was freaking me out about post-date babies even though I was thriving and I pushed him to be born through stress, the cohoshes etc. What resulted was a 36+ hour labor that kept stopping and starting (b/c my body wasn't ready to birth) and when I did birth a healthy baby boy at home the mw said quietly, 'hmmmm....he doesn't look like a post-date baby....hmmmm....he actually has a few attributes of an early baby'.

I think the most important thing is for you to have a centered place you can visit where you can trust your intuition of how your baby is doing.

I am a few days shy of being a full 43 weeks but have no interest in bio-physical feedbacks (fancy name for an ultrasound) b/c I feel fabulous, the baby moves regularly, the heartbeat is strong. I have started drinking tons of water and eating handfulls of seaweed which boosts your placentas nutrients in the 3rd trimester.

In all honesty, I wish my babies came at 40 weeks so I didn't have deal with this. On the other hand the experiences I have really push me to speak to my deepest mothering intuition.

One thing I have found through these experiences and by talking to all different kind of moms on MDC is that UCers (moms w/o pressure of mws/drs etc) seem to find it somewhat normal to gestate longer. It is those of us with the pressures of the medical community (mws included) who force ourselves into labor before our children are ready.
