I got an email from a former client/friend, who had her 3rd at about the same time I did (she came to my class frequently with her 2nd and we got to know each other well). She had a great home waterbirth, no complications, though she did mention something about the placenta taking a long time (no idea how long that means) to come and then having it partially come out and the MW had to persuade the last bit to "peel off" was how she described it. Her recovery was uncomplicated and fine, though with three kids & knowing her, she probably didn't get as much rest as she could have.

Anyway, by her description around 3 or 4 months postpartum she started feeling crampy and "like not everything had gone back the way it should have". She said it felt like AF was on the way, but she didnt get it back until closer to a year with her other two. This feeling has intensified and she now describes it as crampy discomfort. She also has started spotting after sex and says she has had a lot of EW-type discharge since this started, which she found unusual to her previous experience also.

She did go see her ARNP, who has less-than-great bedside manner apparently. Her uterus was "very painful" at palpation but her ovaries and cervix feel normal. The NP seemed to be insisting she had another ovarian cyst (she had one shortly before getting pregnant) but she doesnt think so. She referred her for ultrasound, and for PT because she feels that her bladder and rectum are both falling. Pap and "cultures" (for STDs?) were also done.

So, what do you think it could be? Is it related to postpartum recovery or something else? The little bit of googling I did was just scary and I dont want to pass that on! She wanted sympathy, mostly, I think but also confirmation that her NP is doing the right things. She seems worried.

Thanks for any thoughts.
