Yippee! She's head down!

So we went in this morning and the baby was transverse, then we went and walked around for an hour while the OB did a c-section on someone else and when we came back the baby was frank breech. Luckily her butt was not locked into my pelvis and the external version worked! The nurse gave me a corset to wear because the baby's position was still unstable, she just has a ton of room to move around in there, so she's now in position but strapped in and hopefully her head will drop into my pelvis and and then we'll be set. So at this point no one is pushing me to have a c-section or get induced.

The OB did ask me what I had been told about my chances of a successful vbac were and when i said about 13% he said "good, that sounds about right". So obviously people aren't all as optimistic as I am about this birth but that's ok, I will be optimistic enough for all of us.

Where did you get that number?!?!?! That's incredibly low. Do you have a doula? I just attended a med-free hospital VBAC about 2w ago.

That is great news. Drop baby! Stay head down. Good luck mama, I will be sending you good VBAC thoughts (to you and all the other VBACers!).

how many children do you have? i'm wondering why you say she has too much room - are you a GMP or is your uterus huge or what?

Stay. Baby Stay!!!

Wonderful news ~ it's such a relief isn't it??

FWIW 13% sounds very low to me too.
Stay positive Mama, this Baby will come on a beautiful birthday!!

I have only one child. My uterus must just be gigantic because I am 39 weeks 2 days and she can move freely, seriously she just flips around in there. She seems smaller than my daughter but not that much smaller.

It is a low number, most vbacs have a much higher success rate. They arrived at it based on my previous labor experience. I have a doula, I had a doula for my first birth too. My midwife was blunt about my chances but she also said that I could be one of those 13 successful vaginal births. This is a different baby, different pregnancy, it could be very different, that's what I'm hoping for. I'll probably dilate faster this time and that could make all the difference.

stay down baby!!!!

I'm very happy for you and glad your baby is head down now.

I do think you were misinformed on the chances of a successful VBAC though. I've done extensive research in choosing to VBAC and do so at home and never would have done so if there was any possible indication that the chances were less than 90%+.

If, however, there is something about your situation that truly makes it only a 13% chance, other than the ideals of the doctor / midwife going in, I give you huge props for going through with it anyways. I would not have the fortitude to attempt a VBAC where I didnt feel in my heart that I had a huge chance at success.

The general consensus (not in natural birth circles, just in general) is about 60-80% success for VBACs for those who have not had a prior vaginal birth, which is about right considering most hospitals have a 20-40% cesarean rate, and thats over all, not just VBACs.

Wishing you good birth vibes momma.

do lots of squats to get her head engaged!

I agree 13% sounds terribly low to me for any previous c/s reason. here is a recent study about the reason for prior c/s not being an accurate indicator of vbac success:
