HSG on Wednesday. Does it really suck? - Page 2

Yikes Jamie!

Did you feel any sort of pain or pressure when the tube ballooned? What is done for a blocked tube? I would imagine some sort of laproscopy?

That's why my RE calls the HSG the "roto-rooter"!

ashesofyou - I had heard that pushing the dye into a blocked tube could be painful but it wasn't for me. Just him putting the catheter in was painful - I didn't even feel the dye.

My tube was already known to be non-functional so when he saw that it was dilated and fluid-filled, he suggested we take it out through a laparoscopy. I agreed right away because I had heard that hydrosalpingitis (I think that is "fluid in the tube") can inhibit implantation and lower the success rate of IVF significantly. So I'll be having it taken out before we do IVF.

What about after an HSG?

Glad your HSG went well! I had mine and it took about 40 minutes from the time he walked in until he was done. I too took 3 Ibuprophen before (should've taken it even earlier I think though). He didn't dialate me just put the catheter in which was a little uncomfy but not much more. When he first injected some dye it wasn't too bad and then more and I think I had a blockage on my right tube because it FREAKIN HURT! Then, with the tube still in he asked me to roll on my side for some side shots and THAT HURT ALOT!!! The Med Tech (a young sweet girl) said when I was done and she was giving me my pad, "you did very well, we have had people pass out, vomit, cry and scream". I told her, "at one point I seriously thought I was going to vomit and passout at the same time". I had white knuckles from gripping the table but using my yoga breath I think really helped me.

How about after an HSG - what kinds of things (out of the ordinary) did you experience? I don't know if it correlates to the procedure but I have a short cycle the month after (27 days and my last 4 had been 34 days) and a lot of tissue and clots pass (large ones too and alienesque)! I had spotting for 2 days after and then 2 more times before AF showed up. Waiting to schedule my surgery in November.

The first time I had it done it was painful and the next day I couldn't even bend over. The second time was nothing like that. It wasn't at all painful and the next day I was fine.
