family, greed, and registries (vent) - Page 2

I had two registries. One at thingsiwant and one at BRU. I had like 5 pages on each and I had a huge shower. Well, about three people ordered anything online. About 7 got the stuff I actually needed at BRU and everyone else bought whatever clothes or items they wanted to. So, I don't feel having a large registry is particularly helpful. I'm just using them to remind myself what I need before the baby gets here. I've almost finished my thingsiwant registry!

Try to remember, you CAN live without a Boppy! They're a convenience for some, but totally unnecessary when you have a comfy seat and a pillow or two.

I was reminded of this when my gal pal didn't use the Boppy for breastfeeding, but instead when she switched to formula, she used it to prop up the baby's head off the floor as he held his own bottle (because apparently once you're done breastfeeding, you don't need to hold your baby

So anywhoo, Boppys and other stuff (Diaper Champs) are sometimes just JUNK that gets in the way and clutters the house. I would relax and buy those things as you need them after the baby. Until them, get a cheap garbage pail for diapers and have pillows on hand.

Focus on absolute essentials like blankets and sleepers.

I got three Boppys, so did my friend. That seems to be something people do buy of their own free will.

DH was looking at the registry and checked out the registries of several friends of ours who are also pregnant (or have recently had babies) and it seems like NOBODY goes off the registry.

I gotta figure out how to get my mom to throw me a shower and tell her to make sure people get us some stuff off the registry! Otherwise I will have 4937 onesies (all size 0-3 months) and nothing else. :

Sure. And I had a Boppy with my other kids (I am not sure if I had one for all since my oldest is 12). But if you're worried about what you can afford and what's necessary, a Boppy is an extra that's not needed. It's a fun thing to have, but easily replaced by folded blankets or pillows under the arm.

I had a Boppy and never used it. I actually found a pillow or two to be far more comfortable.

That's what happened at my shower! Oh, well, at least I get to use them twice now, with baby #2.

Do you know what gender you're having?
Nope, its still a mystery. Hey at least I can use that as an excuse for why this kid is going to have like 4 outfits. Maybe thats why no one has bought anything, because they are afraid to get anything until we know what the baby is. Even still my Mom said she would do a small party kind of thing but I should have known better. She's not very good about that kind of stuff which is OK because I'm not either. I'm sorry didn't mean to throw my own pity party in here I'm just getting kind of depressed right now.

I've been told (over and over by several people) it's annoying to people who want to know the sex so they can buy things :

I don't understand why they can't just buy the carseat or things that don't HAVE to be boy/girl?!

Or better yet, just shuddup and let the parents decide what they want because it's THEIR kid, not public property!

So people are trying to make you feel like you need to find out the gender for their shopping convenience??

I don't know why I'm surprised.

A work acquaintance of mine keeps saying loudly, whenever anyone asks what the gender is, "She CHEATED! She FOUND OUT!" like I've participated in some horrible genetic engineering experiment or something.

Apparently you (as a parent) can not do it right no matter what :

But yes, and I've even heard it a couple of times from strangers as they're in a baby shop blustering over the baby shower they have to go to and how the mom and dad refuse to tell them if it's a boy or a girl. Like it's the first sign of how terrible they will be at parenting or something.

yup totally got this today from my jerk face FIL after he had to comment that I died my hair. Ok I cannot understand how that man ever even got close enough to a woman to father my DH, oh wait it is my MIL. SNARK, (not in a good mood, can you tell). One thing is clear though, nice normal people do not comment on 8.5 month pregnant woman's hair (that is going gray at 26) unless they want to die, especially when I know for a fact that he used to grcian formula his hair up until 2 years ago.
