Third-trimester organization panic

Thread Starter
I'm officially in third-trimester panic.

I'm going nuts because we dont have everything we need for the baby all set up and ready. I had DS at 38 weeks, so I feel like I only have 3 weeks left, even though I have a little over amonth until my EDD. Its like serious anxiety attack mode over here! the problem is that I cant afford to get everything at once...
What about you all? Anyone panicking? What do you still need to do/get? Maybe we can help each other get going/ get organized!

1.We are putting a crib in the room the kids will share (though the baby will be in with us until she's too big for the cosleeper - dont flame me! Its a long story), and it will be mostly a diaper-changing station until she sleeps in it. Before, i wasn't worried about getting it set up, but now I WANT it in there! Like, NOW! Just as a place to put the diapers and such. But the crib is in my parent's basement and we need to rent a truck to get the pieces from there to here. No money to do that!

2. One good thing: We finally got a dresser for the kids. We used to have one, but the people we borrowed it from needed it back in May, so we'd had all of DS's clothes in milk crates and a laundry basket since then. When some lovely friends and MDC mamas gave us clothes for our new baby girl, they stayed in cardboard boxes in the living room cus we had nowhere to put them. But my dad found us a HUGE 8-drawer dresser on someone;s driveway in their neoghborhood marked FREE, so he sanded and painted and installed new hardware and now its finally in the kids room, thanks to Dad and DH borrowing a truck and moving it themselves - Dad even missed the baseball game to help:.

3. I need new breast shields / plastic parts for my breast pump.

4. Need nursing bras BAD! I do NOT want to be sending Dh out to Target the day after the baby comes to get a nursing bra for me. Its likely he'd either come home with a 42E or a 32A (and I'm a 38D in nursing bras). Ditto for nursing pads and nipple salve!

5. Nursing-friendly pajamas for babymoon at my moms house ( we're delivering there).

6. Clean clean clean clean the whole apartment

7. Organize DS's toys, because I KNOW it wont get done for YEARS unless I do it before the baby comes

I'm in the same boat. We have a bassinet for as long as baby can sleep in it, but I'd like to get a crib as well, and we've yet to make that purchase because we "might" have someone giving us theirs...I have NO nursing bras, because I am still wearing a 34A, which is pretty much my pre-pregnancy size, and I'm afraid to buy any more bras because they may grow, and they may not. I have no idea what these jugs are up to. As long as they work, I'll try not to stress about it, but since they're small right now, I'm guessing I can go braless...we'll see...

So that makes...

1. Crib (but no rush because we won't use it right away)
2. Need baby detergent to start washing EVERYTHING
3. Feel the need to clean our room up a bit more, get rid of things we don't need to make it a pure and clean space for baby
4. Pajamas/nursing gown for hospital and home
5. put carseat in car
6. pack a bag for hospital
7. stock up on frozen meals and take out menus
8. buy my mom's plane ticket
9. clean clean clean clean clean

I keep feeling like I have plenty of time, but these weeks are going by so fast!:

Actually, you can just wash baby's things in whatever detergent your normally use. Usually there isn't a need for baby detergent. If your LO ends up with sensitive skin (or ecezma like my DS) you may need to use a Free & Clear detergent.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

I vacillate between panic and denial.

I still need to buy some things which I feel are essential (sling for DH, bouncy seat, homecoming outfit for baby) and I have a ton of seemingly non-essential things. Yesterday I finally washed the baby clothes but forgot all the other stuff that comes in contact with baby, like sheets, nursing pillow cover, swaddle blankets, etc. I haven't packed my hospital bag. I don't need a dresser for the baby but it would make like so much easier - I could put the changing pad on top and clothes inside. I've found some on craigslist but I don't have a truck either. Right now I'm not freaked out about it b/c I have almost 4 weeks before my due date. Ask again in 5 minutes though and you'll get a different story!

MamaHippo how sweet of your dad to fix up the dresser and deliver it for you! Wow! Could your DH possibly borrow the same truck to get the crib pieces to your house? As for the rest of the stuff, 2 words: online shopping! Target.com has a great selection of nursing bras. You can also get the pads and cream online, I think. You should be able to order your breast pump parts from Medela or Ameda or maybe even Amazon. Nursing PJs from Motherwear or Espressiva or whatever. Good luck! I'm a FTM and overwhelmed by the preparation. I can't imagine trying to do it while entertaining another kid!

YES!! I am SOOO there. I have a flippind dentist appt today so that wrecks my whole freaking day but on my To-Do list is

1) Get the dang pack & play out of the broken down van and wash it. Get it set up in the corner

2) Clean my bedroom

3) Finish washing baby stuff (I got 95% of it done but I have a few random things I forgot and my stuff from my babyshower this weekend)

4) Buy lanolin and nursing pads (not sending my mom to wal-mart the day after baby is born to get this stuff for me!!)

5) Pack suitcase

6) Get travel toiletries so that DH doesn't have to use James' toothpaste

7) Pack JAMES' suitcase for staying at my MIL's while we're in the hospital.

8) buy drawer liners, that dresser is disgusting

9) Buy diapers!! We are using dispoable : so I need to get 1 or 2 packages of Newborn diapers to have on hand.

10) Get stuff for easy lunches for James. Soup at Hand, stuff like that...

I have the vast majority of the baby clothes washed

Not sure why, but even though I have a lot left on my list, I'm not yet in panic mode. Maybe its denial

My baby shower is in 2 weeks, so I'm hoping we get some stuff on our list as gifts. Otherwise, I'll have about 4 weeks to get what I need together (that is, if DS comes on time and not early).

I am just beginning to panic a bit again after feeling great about it all. We're also getting down to the wire. Even though I am only 32/33 weeks, baby COULD come any time, so I really want to get this all done asap.

1. Birthing pool and accessories
2. Pay off the MW
3. Carseat
4. Homebirth kit
5. Towels
6. Baby dresser
7. Fleece for the insides of diapers to catch meconium stool
8. Books and info on delaying vaccination
9. Rocker recliner would be nice
10. Diaper pail thingies (getting the hanging bags instead)
11. Possibly nursing bras
12. Stock up on household items like TP, laundry soap, etc
13. Thank you gift for MW??
14. Baby and Christmas (combined) announcement/cards
15. Breast pump kit

Various other things...

I second this. We have always used free & clear detergents for the whole family (mainly All & Purex), and my daughter with eczema does fine with this. We're considering switching over to Charlie's Soap for all of our laundry, including diapers.

Ha! Me, too. One minute, I feel totally calm. I do, after all, have everything I need for the baby--my bed to sleep in, breasts to feed him, clothes for him to wear, diapers folded and ready to go. However...I quickly switch over to panic when I realized that I still haven't folded and put away all the baby clothes, we don't have a crib for baby's naps yet, I'm in need of non-stretched-out nursing bras, the diapers haven't all been washed....Ack!

Here's what I need to do in the next week or so:

1.) Find the nursing pillow (My Brest Friend) and wash the cover.

2.) Wash, dry, and find a place to stash all of my slings.

3.) Wash the carseat cover, and once the van's fixed, install the carseat.

4.) Sell our old co-sleepers and buy a new wooden portacrib.

5.) Set up pack 'n' play changing station in the living room.

6.) Buy a little lidded trash can for dirty cloth diapers downstairs so I don't have to trek upstairs every time I need to change a diaper.

7.) Find my lanolin and stash it with my breast pads.

8.) Buy gigantic sposie mama pads for the first few days and sew up some extra cloth pads for the rest of the pp flow.

9.) Clean up this messy, cluttered house!

OH gosh. I thought it was just me....

Just today, I finally dragged the car seat out of the basement and washed the cover. Still need to wipe the plastic parts down, though... I also washed the cover of the bouncy seat. Gotta start somewhere, right?

Things I still have left to do...

1. Rewash all my infant CPFs and covers, and put them in my diaper basket.

2. Get out all the baby-baby clothes, bassinet sheets, washcloths, blankets, etc. and wash and organize them on the changing table. Don't have a dresser for LO yet...

3. OK, back up - get the rest of DS' things off of the changing table, and find a place for them, so LO can have somewhere to keep his/her stuff...

4. Bassinet won't even arrive until my mom does, early next month. It's a family heirloom, which all of us kids use for our babies, and mom has custody of it in between times.

5. Crib is still in the basement, but won't need it for a while. Good thing, b/c we don't know exactly where LO will wind up - 6 DC in a 4 BR house... Our BR is too small for the crib, and we do co-sleep, but a couple of my DC have actually preferred the crib to the family bed, so I like to be prepared...

6. Need to install car seat base in van. But also need to figure out how to arrange everyone else's car/booster seats so as to minimize the squabbling....

7. Need to get the ring sling and mei tai out of the van and wash them both...

8. Nursing bras????? I've gotten *one* new Bravado so far. It's hard to find pretty ones in my size (36DD) that aren't $$$$... The Bravado is great for the first few weeks, but I really need one with more support.

9. Keep the house clean - FIL was here for the weekend, and it looks great now. But I need to keep on top of it...

I'm sure there's MUCH more. But I, too, am kinda in denial...

Sorry you are stressing Lisa!! A week or two ago I got into panic mode and made a to-do list but kept it pretty reasonable. Luckily the only things left I really need to buy are a washable black stamp pad to do hand/footprints within the first few days and a baby book (which I would like to make and put together myself but just don't know if I will have the time/energy to do before the baby is 6 months old ). I still have tons of cleaning to do but it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't get done before baby comes. It's funny - whenever I'm cleaning I find myself thinking that it's mostly for the midwifes when they come for the birth.

Warning about charlie's soap. Apparently the soap can cause major burns and isn't as great as it seems. I would stay away.

We had a thread here with info in it a month or so ago and I don't remember everything, but it was enough for me to not buy the stuff.

:

There are a lot of threads on the diapering board about it. Some people have no issues with it, though.

A big thanks to all of you who have reminded me of how much I have left to do! Yikes. I walked into the house today and smelled something funny. Now, our house was built in 1795 and it smells like we have a dead mouse somewhere in the walls. I am not keen on ripping the walls out but I can't figure out where the smell could be coming from other than there. Hopefully he dries out soon.

So, I worked an incredibly tiring day today and I have the next 3 days off- hopefully I can whittle away at some of this stuff:

~wash ALL the baby stuff- diapers, clothes, sheets, blankies, maya wrap...
~paint the dang wooden curtain rods and brackets
~finish the baby's room
~clean the house (it is atrocious)
~get some nursing stuff
~pack my bag and the baby's bag
~write my birth plan
I am freaking out about the house. I don't care that it is under construction, but I really need to tear apart the cabinets (I did 2 yesterday), clean off the baker's rack, do the windowsills, the closet under the stairs, the yard... OMG. Help!

I also would LOVE to have my baby shower soon so I know what I have. I am overwhelmed.
