I am choosing not to take a prenatal vitamin at this time due to severe NVP. I am wondering whether it makes any sense to take something like Emergen-C (fizzy drink) instead (I think I could keep this down). I am not entirely convinced that prenatal supplementation is necessary under good nutrition conditions, but since it is difficult for me to eat as healthfully as usual right now, I am a little more concerned. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

you're right on, I think prenatal vitamins are something that we place too much emphasis on.
Your baby is well protected. I say eat what sounds good to you and what you know will stay down. There is plenty of time for optimal nourishment later.
Sometimes lemon juice or lemon water helps women with hyperemisis. The lemon flavor Emergen-C might help. In fact, it's electrolyte balanced so this is likely to at least assist in this way.
