Gentle Birth formula?

My midwives suggested I take this tonic. It's called Gentle Birth and they tell me that it won't make the baby come before he's ready but will make your labor go quicker and be easier. HOWEVER I was looking at the herbs used and I'm not so sure about that. Seems like quite a few of these herbs are to start contractions. Tell me what you think:

Contains: Blessed Thistle, Blue Cohosh, Flase Unicorn, Red Raspberr, Squawvine, Bayberry, Ginger, Scullcap, Motherwort, Wild Yam extract.

Those are in order listed so you know what is in there the most.

BTW I don't want to make this baby come before he's ready at ALL! I want nothing to do with any kind of induction "natural" or otherwise. I wouldn't mind a "gentler" birth though.

never heard of it, and anything like it has always scared me. My midwife doesnt give me anything besides RRL tea and evening primrose oil, so thats all Im comfortable taking.

This is what I found on the net for you

I dont know that I would take it...
Especially since even that website says
"Blue Cohosh: Brings on effective labor contractions."

I dont know though, maybe you should ask the 'pros' over in birth and beyond?

mmmm.....highly questionable I agree.

I wouldn't do anything except Red Raspberry Leaf tee....

I did the EPO with my last pregnancy but only 'cause I went insane being 18 days "late". ie. I was severely sleep deprived and wanted to PRY the baby out..

I also got a *yikes* feeling when I read that it said to start taking it 5 (!!!) weeks before your due date...

I dont know. Maybe I just worry it will be too effective and will put you into labor before you're ready. Maybe someone else has more experience with it though.

well, I started drinking a similar tea at almost 37 weeks under my midwife's guidance. It did intensify my BH, but certainly didn't put me into labour early of course, every body is different

Sounds like Dr. Christopher P6 formula. I took that last time but not until 37 weeks. I had a very precipitous labor but have no way of knowing whether that was it or not.

If you don't feel comfortable taking it I wouldn't or I'd just question them more and ask about their experiences with it and why they suggest you take it.

I have been taking a pill form (don't know if that is what this is) since I was 35 weeks. I have 9 days left until my due date and no baby! Not even signs of a baby. I have had contractions but that's to be expected. No "show" or anything like that. It is mostly used for controlling bleeding during and after birth, slowing fast labors and helping long labors along, helps with PPD, and a list of other things. I can testify that you will not go into labor early because I have been doing other things to help labor along and still no baby. You will not go until that baby wants out! Plus, the amounts of the herbs used are so minimal in each capsule that you would have to take a ton of them to get a full dose of anything. Many of the herbs used are to help strengthen the uterus and cervix. I started mine taking 4 capsules a day and now I am taking 12 a day and I will have some left to take after the baby comes too. It's really not that bad and like I said, no signs of labor starting yet...I wish it would soon! I am getting real unconfortable!!

My Midwives also recommended the same thing they called 5W which just means take for 5 weeks before EDD. I thought about it long and hard and decided against it. I drink Pregnancy Tea by Traditional Medicinals and figured this was enough herbal support for me. Your body knows what to do so trust it

Go with your gut - some people really like those prep things and swear by them, and some people are afraid of them. If you don't feel you need it, then don't take it. I highly doubt it will induce your baby though. Midwives don't have any magic labor potions... you can drink a bottle of blue cohosh tincture, and if you aren't ready it is doubtful you are going to have your baby - at least that has been my experience!

I used a tincture called EZ birth with my first pregnancy, starting at 36 weeks and used until baby came at 40w. It was supposed to help tone the uterus and make for an "easy birth".......it didn't. I was in active labour for a looooooong time and ended up with a c-section.
For this pregnancy I didn't used anything herbal and labour went a lot smoother, although it took a while to realize when I was really in labour.
