recycling sweaters to covers

My machine has gathered dust since I had my second child, and I'm ready to sew again. I want to recycle some sweaters into wool diaper covers for my toddler. Any tips on how to find sweaters and what kinds to avoid? And is there a universal pattern out there or should I just improvise?

Theres also instructions on the Born to Love site.

Just get 100% wool sweaters. I found 2 for 50 cents at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I made one already, it looks really cute!

I did get one sweater its not 100% wool. Its some wool soma angora, so its super soft and a tiny bit of polyester. It is white and so soft and pretty looking. It was cheap, so thought I'd give it a try, dont know how well it will work though.

Sweaters with as little as 30% wool work just fine, too. Just make sure that the rest of the fibers are not cotton or cotton-like (ramie, rayon). Wool blended with polyerster, nylon, or acrylic will work very nicely, and they don't felt up as dense, either, so they stay stretchier.

Silly question - who do you felt the wool? Do you just wash it? Do you need to use Eucalan?

Never mind - the link finally worked and I read the instructions.

Are there any other patterns available?

Do I need to use a special thread?

I use polyester thread, anything cotton *may* wick.
