I'm not sure what exactly the specifics are on how much I can say about this in this forum, but I thought I would at least try to mention this here and anyone can PM me or we can talk about it further on the yahoo group if you want details.
I imagine they do this for lots of things and it just never occurred to me
:
I have a friend (online) who is pregnant with her second child and has epilepsy. She has to take anti-convulsant (sp?) drugs while she is pregnant, and participates in a study while she does so, so they can track birth defects, etc of the drugs she must take. She posted on the board of our online group that the research facility was looking for women who are pregnant to be a part of a control group (which means you are NOT taking the drugs, so they can compare your pregnancy and child to others who did have to take the meds.)
Basically, you complete a phone interview about your pregnancy that lasts about 7 minutes (they said 15-20, but it was way shorter) and then another interview about the birth about 1-2 months after the baby is born. You must also consent to provide 6 months of the baby's medical records for comparison. That's all!
Anyway, I'm NOT a fan of the pharmaceutical industry, but sometimes there are situations where we HAVE to take meds, and if I can help other mamas out there like this, I think it's GREAT and I wanted to let you know that there are opportunities like this available.
If you're interested in this particular one, you're welcome to PM or contact me through the Yahoo group and I'll give you all the info. You are entered into a raffle for $400 just for participating as an incentive.
Hope this is okay to post here!! I kind of feel like it's walking the line since it's med-related.
