18 month old with chipped front tooth = OUCH!

My DS fell down the concrete front steps of our building on Friday eve and chipped one of his top front teeth a little. You can't really see the chip but you can feel a difference between that tooth and the one next to it. He's recovered well from his tumble but each time I nurse him (1-3 times/day) I'm in agony. Should I bring him to a dentist to have the tooth filed smooth? Will I toughen up and get used to the pain? DH has suggested that we start weaning him completely...which I have mixed emotions about, and which wouldn't go over well with DS of course.

(We're going to be extra vigilant about brushing his teeth and I'll ask about it next time we take our older child to the dentist in a few weeks BTW.)

I am not sure. I would call the pediatrician or dentist and ask what they think, what is normally done in this situation and go from there. I personally would not wean due to this if you were not planning to wean. It can be managed somehow w/out weaning.

I would go have it filed down. It doesn't hurt, I have had it done. Besides, chipped teeth can rub on your lips, tongue, etc. and cause sores.

My dentist said I could file down with a clean nail file. I opted to bring my ds2 in and have the dentist do it. The only down side is the dentist file is the "drill" noise and it can freak a baby out.
