I don't have time to do much since this is my first time online in a week. I have a week and a half worth of online banking to do.
Scarlett Leone was born on 10/03 at 11:20 pm after 18 hours of active labor. I was stuck at 8 cm for 7 hours. I will post our birth story later this week, but she was 8lbs 1oz and 20in long. Congratulations to all of the new mamas and I will be back soon.
Birth Story:
On Tuesday morning (10/02), I lost the rest of my plug and started to have contractions about 20 minutes apart, which was nothing out of the ordinary at that point. Around 6 pm, they started to feel more serious, but still were spaced out about 20 minutes. I continued contracting all night, but only woke up a few times from them. At 3:30, I woke up with a stronger one and they continued at 8 minutes apart for an hour and then jumped down to 5 minutes. I wasn't believing that it was real yet because of all of the contracting that I had been having for the past week. Dh's alarm went off at 5:30 and I told him he shouldn't go to work and to call my parents who were going to watch dd for us. He went to drop her off and I stood in the shower the whole time he was gone. He came back with some breakfast and I got out and the contractions were between 2-4 minutes, so he called the dr and we headed over to the birth center. Before we checked in, I wanted to walk around to make sure this was IT.(I was still in major denial at this point) We went up and down the hills near by for the second time in 3 days and went to check in right around 10am. I was checked and was at 5 cm, which was great because I was still sure that I was going to be sent home. We continued to walk around and I also bounced a little on the birth ball. They started to get more difficult at this point, so I climbed into the jacuzzi and stayed there about 20 minutes before I started to overheat. When I climbed out I was checked again around 2:30pm and I was at 8 cm. This is when it started to suck. They were still coming strong and I was checked again at 5:30pm and I was still at 8 cm. At 6:00pm, they asked if I wanted my water broken, because that was sure to make me progress the last 2 cm. At that point, I was exhausted and agreed to it. I bounced around on the ball, then climbed back into the jacuzzi for a while. Since it helped me progress before, I thought maybe it would help again, but alas no. I was still at 8 cm and it was 8:30. At this point I had a very bad attitude, which probably wasn't helping at all and I just wanted to be done. They asked if I wanted to try some pitocin to get me to 10 and I agreed knowing that I'd want an epidural because I had been down that road before. So at about 9pm, they started the iv and the pitocin drip and I cried because I felt that I was so close to getting the med free birth I wanted, but I just couldn't take anymore of it. At 10pm I was still at 8cm, crying hysterically and mighty pissed off at my body for failing me. I requested the epidural and it came at 10:30, but this time I still had some feeling in my legs and there was a spot that it didn't take, so I still had some pain too. About 10 minutes later, I felt pushy, so I asked to be checked and I was 10cm. I started pushing and 50 minutes later, Scarlett Leone was born at 11:20 pm, w/o any tears just a tiny skid mark. After the birth, I started wondering if it was me that was keeping myself stalled at 8 for some reason. This wasn't my ideal birth, but I feel like I tried everything I could in my power to make it and it just didn't happen this time. I felt much more supported this time than with my first daughter and maybe third time will be the charm. After not having a middle name for three days, we decided on Leone which is a family name. It was my great-great grandmother's first name and the middle name of my great- grandmother, grandmother, mother and a few third cousin's.
