How often does your baby get hiccups?

Mine is hiccuping 3-4 times a day! It's a bit unnerving...the general consensus is that hiccups are normal and healthy for an in utero baby, but there are a few sources out there that claim that frequent hiccups are associated with cord problems (knots, wrapped around neck, etc).

Like I need something else--something probably totally not applicable to me--to worry about!

My first two babies both had hiccups in utero; my first was born with the cord around her neck a couple of times, and my second was born with the cord wrapped around her body sash-like (Miss America-style). They were both perfectly healthy. But I wonder if there's a correlation?

*Stop worrying about nothing, Serina...*

Dylan had the hiccups all the time, but this baby has not had them once yet. I've never heard the cord correlation... you should ask your MW or doc about it next time you go in. I don't see how there would be a link, since breathing/hiccuping and the cord don't really have anything to do with each other at this point... do they?

Evan hiccuped constantly DS2 (ASD) , he did have a nuchal cord but so did JAy DS1 and he hiccupped not so often maybe 1x per day or less... I have heard very frequent hiccups in utero assoc with reflux/ colic but not cord issues... (not that that means it isn't true I jsut never heard that) Evan was EXTREMELY colic/ reflux (among other things..) this LO just started hiccupping about 1x per day in teh evening... what is "normal" for in utero hiccups???

My LO gets them anywhere from 1-5 times a day. He actually has them right now.

He even had them way back at the 13 week U/S.

I wouldn't worry yourself over it. My baby has hiccups pretty often, probably 2-4 times per day. Today she's had them at least 4 times.

Mine easily has hiccups 3-4 times a day. DD did too. I choose to see it as a good thing--its a sign that the baby is doing a lot of practice breathing. DD was born with really strong lungs from all that practice--I'm hoping this one will too!

Ya know, I don't notice it so much with the twins. Maybe I should worry that they don't hiccup?!

DD had the hiccups all the time and had the cord around her neck 3x at birth. DS had them fairly often and the cord was around his neck once. Hmmm.

There is a study out there that correllated fetal hiccups with cord compression, but you have to be caresul how you interpret it--the study says that fetal hiccups CAN be a symptom of cord compression, but does NOT say that fetal hiccups = cord compression. Does that make sense? Also, I should mention that a lot of docs have disputed this study and think its BS--there are some research design issues.

Fetal hiccups are strongly considered a sign of a HEALTHY baby, and doctors are far more concerned if babies are NOT hiccupping.

Now I am starting to worry because my baby never hiccups... It's always something, right?

Yeah, I was hoping to read more of the 'my baby never hiccups' responses, because this LO has hiccuped (hiccupped?) maybe 3 times during my whole pregnancy. DD did so much more frequently (once a day it seems) and was fine both with respect to cord and reflux/colic.

about 3-4 times a day I think

Around 2-3 times a day here.

Baby A hiccups 8-10 times a day and I have been worrying over whether or not that is normal or not (none of my babies have ever hiccuped THIS much, but its been going on for the last 6-8 weeks or so!) Baby B hiccups only about 4-6 times a day (still a LOT compared to the rest of you). I have been having frequent ultrasounds and everything has checked out fine so far with both babies, so I am trying to concentrate more on the fact that they are doing a lot of practice breathing and less on the possibility of problems (as much as I can anyways).

Mine usually only gets the hiccups once a day but when he does they seem to continue for hours!

I don't remember either of my other kids getting them this much. Little things like this make me so excited to meet this guy and see what his personality is like compared to the other two!

my baby had only hiccupped a handful of times prior to 32 weeks or so...and it was only when i had a stomachache/heartburn. how weird is that?

the past two weeks or so s/he's been hiccuping almost every night after dinner/when i first go to bed, usually for a pretty extended time. if i'm trying to fall asleep i get real cranky about it and then feel guilty.
