Just trying to find out some more info and was wondering if anyone has had this test done. Can you fill me in on how it is done, if you think it is necessary/good,is it covered by your insurance if not how much did it cost. TIA

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I have heard that not too many are done now. I've been told the same information can be obtained by the woman charting her own CM, to know if there is enough fertile quality to achieve pregnancy.
Are you worried about hostile CM?
What are your reasons to have one done?
What kinds of testing have you and DP done so far?

Sorry you are going through this. I hope you can find some help and fellowship here.

I had it done--not covered by insurance but none of our infertility stuff was covered by insurance. It has been a while but they just draw out some CM around ovulation and make sure the sperm are doing well/able to swim through the mucus. In our case it was because clomid can mess with cervical fluid and we were using clomid. That cycle ended in miscarriage and they didn't do one on the next cycle if I remember.
As an aside, we were using pre-seed lubricant and the RE said they hadn't ever had such a good postcouital on clomid and asked me to write down the name of the stuff. (FWIW).

We have been trying for a little over a year now and we are just starting with a RE now and have been through all the blood work, DH SA x2 and have a HSG scheduled for Friday. The reason I asked about it is b/c of my acupuncturist mentioned the test and said she would be interested in seeing the results of that kind of test mid cycle. I have wonder if my body could possibly be attacking the sperm b/c I do have a positive ANA which they say could possibly cause those things to happen. That is what they say but who knows. So that is some of my background and reason for my question to being with. Thanks for responding!!!

I had it done and it was like a pap - nothing bad. In our case the dr. said he saw white blood cells (sign of infection) and put us both on antibiotics - no explanation of what type or who had it. That seemed to make our test results invalid.
Wasn't invasive, just logistically challenging getting to the dr. within 2 hours of the act!

I had it done 2x. The first one I was on clomid. All of dh's swimmers were found to be dead/or not moving. I had the Doctor repeat it a few months later and everything was fine. The clomid was killing off the little guys.

I DIDN'T have it done. Our RE said that if you plan on doing an iui or ivf, then the post-coital test is not necessary, since any cm problems would be bypassed with the iui or in vitro. The post coital is really only helpful she says if you are going to try on your own for a while with/without fertility meds. Since we knew we were doing either an iui or ivf (we're in the middle of our first ivf cycle now) we skipped this test.
Thanks everyone for the responses!! As far as I know our insurance will pay for this test so I'm going to have it done next cycle. I didn't know that you had to get into the office within only 2 hours of DTD. Why can't these drs do this kind of thing on the weekends to make our lives a little easier???!!!!!
to all!!!
to all!!!
