a zoloft/ nausea connection?

Odd. DH and my mom both pointed out that my barfing returned right when I started up with zoloft. I take zoloft in the morning and always seem to barf within an hour of taking it. I never even noticed the connection. I also started taking iron pills (27mg) on the same day, but I take them at night with my vitamin. Do you think there is a connection? I am so sick of barfing! This morning I barfed water. That was all I had consumed and out it came. UGH. I can't even keep water down??? :

It might be the iron. I puke a few hours after taking my iron EVERY time. I've just stopped. I know that's bad and I'm terrified because I was so anemic with Pixie that they threatened a blood transfusion for me at her birth if I didn't take my iron the last trimester.

I would forgo the iron for a couple of days and see if that's it. If it is, maybe you can try a slow-release iron instead (this is what the pharmacist rec. for me last night and I'm going to try.)

I guess my gut instinct is, if you're barfing it back up, there's a reason your body is rejecting it. But that's just my theory, nothing scientific about it!!

I had a lot of nausea when I started zoloft. It's a pretty normal side effect of that med, along with diarrhea and some anxiety when you first start, or else sleepiness.

It should go away in a week or two.

The other thing is, it could be the iron. I get SO sick and nauseous when I take my prenatal vitamin, and then hours later I have the WORST heartburn that makes me want to throw up.

Could you try taking the zoloft at night? I know a lot of people who have side effects do that, and by the morning, they feel much better. Also, always take the zoloft with food.

You mentioned you were off Zoloft for 4 days recently. Did you throw up? Were you still taking your iron?

Can you try to take the Zoloft at a different time of the day to see if that helps?

I don't remember having nausea when I started taking Zoloft, or when I've increased my dosage, but I'm not normally prone to nausea. Maybe something about the combination of pregnancy hormones and zoloft and your own chemistry? How long had you been on the zoloft, and had the nausea gotten any better during that time?

That's a sucky choice, nausea or depression.

Another thought I had, based on your thread about being freaked out... when I started Zoloft and sometimes when I up my dosage, I feel sort of wired and speedy for a few days, like I've had an extra cup of coffee.

Wish I could help more with the nausea question.
