Gestational Hypertension...

Thread Starter
Looks like my 1st doula client has this.

She is 37w today, BP has been sky high for at least the last 3 weeks. Going in today(AM) for 3rd MD visit in last 3 working days, spent Friday and yesterday in hossy. Her partner told me that 'they' don't think she'll last the week (whatever that means). When this began I offered suggestions that she could try to help lower it. They tried some and it seemed to work for a week but they have not kept up with it. She is not interested in a med-free birth.

What I want to know is two things.
1. How is this normally handled in the hospital birth environment? (IE: what should I prepare myself/them for?)
2. How would HB midwives handle GH?

Thanks!

Q: hossy?

Did they tell her she has PIH (Pregnancy Induced Hypertension) or Preeclampsia?
The management depends on the diagnosis.

A: hossy is a nickname for the hospital...sounds Ozzyish or Kiwiish to me.

1: General Info and typical way of handeling situation: http://www.babycenter.com/0_gestatio...nfo%403ebd467e

2: Keep close eye on bp, water therapy (swimming/soaking), testing for Preeclampsia, dietary & stress changes, herbal or homeopathic ...are some of the things that come to mind.
