Anyone sleep on a futon mattress? - Page 2

We bought a kingsize futon 6 years ago so that we could easily cosleep. It has worked out really well for the most part, I think I'm starting to want something a bit softer, or maybe I'm just tired of sleeping on the floor

But all in all, it is very comfortable and the perfect cosleeping solution.

DD and I slept on one for about 6 months when I stayed with my parents a few years back. It was ok not the best seep ever though.

We have always used futon mattresses on our beds. Most have them have been wonderful. We did have one dud, though. It was only about 2 years before it had 2 distinct grooves from our bodies, even though we flipped and rotated periodically. I wish I knew what brand it was so I can make sure I don't get that again. Now, we have a Gold Bond futon on our bed. I think it has a layer of foam in it, which I'm not thrilled about, but after that crappy one, we were concerned about compression and decided foam might help with that. We have plywood between the boxspring and the futon; it's a cheapo boxspring and we were starting to feel it through that crappy futon. We also use a featherbed on top so there's still that firmness and support, but it feels soft under your body. DD sleeps on an all-cotton futon on the floor.

We slept on a futon mattress on a low frame for years, swithed to soft-side waterbed mattress and hated it. Next futon mattress was 6+ years old on a taller platform frame and it was replaced with a double pillow top mattress set. I doubt we'd go back to a futon now, but the years and weight we have gained have a lot to do with that.

I cosleep with ds on a full size 8inch futon on a pine frame. He is a total bed hog. I find the futon more comfy than our fancy pillowtop mattress where dh sleeps now. I flip it maybe once a month, we have had it for 4 years, still very comfy and thick.

I need something better for my back and co-sleeping where the baby will not sink into a hole next to me. We have a futon couch and I like it's firmness. The matresses seem more affordable for what I am looking for.

Thanks!

They are WONDERFUL. I got mine waaaay back in 1990 and it is still going strong. It was the BEST thing to cosleep on because there was no adult-center-of-gravity hole into which the baby can fall AND because there were no springs to bounce when I got up or down, AND because she had only about 4" to go from the top of the bed to the floor.
