O/T: Whatcha reading?

I don't mean books about birth, necessarily. I just like to see what folks are reading and enjoying. It gives me new ideas for my future library trips.

I just picked up the first book in the "His Dark Materials" series by Philip Pullman. I'm not sure if it's my thing, but it came highly recommended.

Let's see...if it's not lesson plans or schoolwork I have to correct...

I'm reading Power to the People by Laura Ingraham

Currently, my "homework" reading is Active Birth, which is really quite good and makes me feel like I am proactively preparing for birth.

A book I've been waiting for just came in at the library for me... "Katherine" by Anya Seton. It's historical fiction -- 14th Century, affair between king's son and married noble lady, serfs, Black Deathk, etc.. I have loved other books by Seton, so I'm looking forward to getting lost in this one.

The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams. I'm not sure how you'd really categorize it. Fantasy, sort of, but not really the way I think of fantasy. My DH is kind of a fantasy geek and a lot of it really makes me roll my eyes, but I really enjoy Tad Williams. It actually reminds me a little of Imajica by Clive Barker.

Of course, I have about 300 pages left, and a new baby coming tomorrow, so I will probably never know how it ends!

One of the most prominant in my mind that I've read this year was The Alphabet Vs. The Goddess. Talks about the role of women through the ages and how the actual process of reading and writing may re-wire our brains to edge out the feminine.

I actually thought about bringing it to the hospital with me in case it takes longer than anticipated to go into surgery, but there is no way in heck I could possibly concentrate. It's been hard the past few nights...I read about a page and a half before I realize I have no idea what I just read!

I recently read a book about the bradley method of birth (I forget the name) and just finished "Jonathan's Story". Its a continuation of a character that left the soap Guiding Light.

Nuthin' lately... can't concentrate very much.
Want to pick up some magazines for "just in case" I have to stay in hospital, and those long hours nursing when we come home.

I have been writing though.... mostly "to do" lists!

Well, I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series, so I'm on Book 5 right now. LOL. Not much help here, am I? But as far as good, intellectually stimulating but really FUN and interesting books...I *love* The Red Tent (Anita Diamante), Prodigal Summer (B. Kingsolver) and A Fine Balance (Rohinton Mistry)

I am getting ready to start Aimee and Jaguar, a book about a lesbian love affair in the 40's in Germany during the War. Its a true story. I already watched the movie and adored it. I cant wait to read the book. The books are always better. I am finishing up Drowning Ruth.

Lately I haven't had any fiction books in my hands and I MISS THEM! I need to head to the libooty.

Oh, Libooty is what Jack called the library when he was 2/3. We still use that name for it regularly!

No fiction here, I'm just not into it!

I'm reading "the organized homeschooler" and rereading john holt's "teach your own".

Sorry. I'm reading Breastfeeding Made Simple. Not what you're looking for, I'm sure. But I loved His Dark Materials. Took me a little to get into them, and then I read all three in a row.
