Labor music

I am so sorry if we've already discussed this (if so, can someone direct me to the right thread?). What is everyone planning on using for music during labor? I'm usually not a big Sarah McLachlan fan, but I'm finding myself drawn to her music right now. I'm also thinking maybe some Tori Amos, Widespread Panic, and Grateful Dead. I know I don't want to do classical or nature sounds (been there, done that). Any other suggestions?

I'm overwhelmed at the idea of choosing labor music... I have no idea what I might want to hear, when. I have thought of having my husband bring his fully loaded MP3 player with roughly 5,000 songs on it, but then I would need to think of what I wanted to hear and request it, which might not be feasible in active labor.

So I am NO HELP! I need to make a list of some of the songs and singers who really draw me into their music, either because of the sounds or the lyrics, and then have my husband organize those for me. That would be my biggest recommendation -- songs that transport you or draw you in for whatever reason.

i'm putting lots of marley and martin sexton on my labor mix. will probably listen to a lot of zuvuya, which is an ambient band with a dulcimer. very pretty.

I'm a big Sarah McLachlan fan, so she's on my list, along with The Corrs, maybe some John Mayer and James Blunt. Oh, and maybe some holiday carols if it gets close!

I have these 3 so far...
The "dangerous" one is a bit weird, but I've really been drawn to it, and I like how it says, "Dangerous.. no more" It sustains me for some reason.

Dangerous- Kasey Chambers
Little Wonders- Rob Thomas
Breathe- Anna Nalick

I like the "100 years" song too from Five For Fighting- might put that on there. REM is another favorite, as is Dar Williams.... I love her Spring Street song and she has another about loving a child for the purpose of them becoming independent.. very sweet, called "The one who knows"

I recommend Sarah McLachlan's "Rareties and B Sides" album... it is really good. You may find some stuff you like on it.

I was going to put some music on my iPod but at our hospital every room has a boom box with a CD player so I may bring that so I can hear what is going on AND listen to the music. Of course, a boom box will be harder to throw across the room than an iPod...
