I need a SMILE.

I think I got like one elusive smile the other day. He's four weeks now. My first smiled at three weeks (no not gas!) but so far I mostly just have gassy smiles. Trying to enjoy this fleeting newborn period, but with increasing fussiness (on both our parts), more crying, and general hormonal stuff, I could use a little boost here. I think I just need a smile! I find it so hard to see no response, although he is certainly looking at me a lot. Selfish I know. I need a little payback, baby.

Anyone else feel like it's hard until your baby can communicate more with you?

hugs to you mama! I completely understand! It is hard... we are exhausted, taking care of our other children, taking care of our homes.... etc.... and we can not always help our little one in the ways that he/she need us to because we aren't exactly sure why they are upset.

I have seen smiles from my little one.... but I am not sure if those are gassy smiles as well. Just remember that your little one loves you so very much!

I too got my first smile at 4wks (same w/ DS1).. Gavin is 6wks, and up until 2 days ago, I'll get one, maybe 1x a day..

I hate rushing him, but I want him to grow up.. I told dh, I want him out of this stage, because honestly it doesn't seem that rewarding. To me, he's just this little thing, with no personality, besides screaming.. I can't wait for him to be more animated.

I have gotten fleeting smiles from the beginning but yesterday was a real smile day and it helped a lot. She smiled at me 5 times yesterday, big gummy grins. I find it much more motivating when baby starts interacting. I am trying to enjoy these newborn days as they go so quickly.

We've gotten lots of smiles, and it just warms our hearts.
