Heartland, I Loved Her First Lyrics

Artist: Heartland
Song: I Loved Her First
Album: I Loved Her First Buy Heartland Sheet Music
Buy Heartland CDs

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

My dad is a fan of "My Girl," by the Temptations. My HS had a father/daughter dance and this was the theme song for one of the years, he loved singing it. He still does. He even hits the high notes. It'll probably be our f/d dance song when/if...I was born in May, so I think it has more meaning (?)

Congrats and have fun

There's a beautiful song by Paul Simon....called 'Father and Daughter'
I'll warn you, it's kind of a tear jerker!!!!

If you leap awake
In the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second
You can't remember where you are
Just open your window
And follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain
Where we counted every falling star

I believe a light that shines on you
Will shine on you forever
And though I cant guarantee
There's nothing scary hiding under your bed
I'm gonna stand guard like a postcard
At the Golden Retriever
And never leave till I leave you
With a sweet dream in your bed

Chorus:
I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two wooo
There could never be a father who loved
His daughter more than I love you

Trust your intuition
It's just like goin fishin'
You cast your line and hope you get a bite
You don't need to waste your time
Worryin' about the market place
Trying to help the human race
Strugglin to survive its harshest hour

Congrats!!!!!

landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie nicks started this song with "this is for you, daddy" in the live version because he was in the audience that night. This song is a tearjerker.

I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Till the landslide brought it down

Oh, mirror in the sky - What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
I don't know, I don't know

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
Because I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I'm getting older, too

So, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide will bring it down
The landslide will bring it down

My dad and I danced to John Denver's "Sunshine on My Shoulder," at my reception. It was one he and I used to dance to when I was really little--one of my first memories is him holding me and I was kind of melted half-asleep over his shoulder as we danced.

wow, this thread is making me cry-I didn't get to dance with my father at either of my weddings. This would be my choice:

Turn Around, by Harry Belafonte

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of the door
Turn around (turn around)
Turn around (turn around)
Turn around and you're a young girl
goin' out of the door

Where are you going my little one, little one
Dirndls and petticoats, where have you gone
Turn around and you're tiny, turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own

Turn around and you're a young
Turn around and you're a young wife with babes of your own

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
Turn around and you're two, turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl going out of my door

My Little Girl
Tim Mcgraw

Gotta hold on easy as I let you go
Going to tell you how much I love you
though you think you already know
I remember I thought you looked like angel wrapped in pink so soft and warm
you've had me wrapped around your finger since the day you were born

Chorus
You beautiful baby from the outside in
chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again
go on, take on this old world but to me you know you'll always be my little girl

when you were in trouble that crooked little smile could melt my heart of stone
now look at you - I've turned around and you've almost grown
sometimes when you're alseep I whisper I love you in the moonlight at your door
as I walk away I hear you say "Daddy, love you more"

Chorus

Someday some boy'll come and ask me for your hand
but I won't say yes to him unless I know he's the half that makes you whole
he has a poet's soul and the heart of a man's man
I know he'll say that he's in love but between you and me he won't be good enough

Chorus
