Painful nipples

I came over to this board to post about my severely raw and painful nipples and found a posting for thrush. My son does have thrush on his upper lip. It's been there for weeks, probably about as long as I have been having pain while nursing him. This is my second child and I never had any problems nursing my first. I didn't realize there could be a connection...I just thought he was latching on bad though he is more than thriving (keeps moving up the growth and weight charts). From what I read of the other posting his pacifier may be to blame?? My first son hated the pacifier, but this one loves it. So should I boil the pacifier constantly to kill the thrush? Once I get my son's thrush cleared up am I to understand that my nipples will heal as well? I breastfed my first till he weaned himself at 18 months, but with this one I was thinking I wouldn't last much longer than a few more months of this agony. Could anything besides the thrush be causing this pain and rawness? Or is the thrush the likely culprit? Thanks for your help.

If your son has thrush, then your nipples need to be treated as well, or you will end up continuously reinfecting each other. Your pediatrician or OB should be able to give you a script for some Diflucan.
