anybody else's babe unhappy to be awake?

So until yesterday, I was thinking DD has been way easier than DS was as a newborn, mostly because she sleeps so darned much. Not in long stretches, especially at night, but for the vast majority of her non-eating hours. When she was awake, she was very bright eyed and alert. But as of yesterday, and I guess off and on for a few days prior, she seems so unhappy/ uncomfortable whenever she is awake. Her goal seems to be to fall back asleep as quickly as possible! She's spending most of her daytime hours upright in a carrier, since that's how she seems happiest, but it also generally puts her to sleep. Sigh...

DS was fussier overall, but I recall much longer peaceful awake periods. Maybe that's revisionist history, but I don't think so! Anybody else got a babe who seems to only be happy asleep? And any suggestions for making her awake time more pleasant for her?

I'll be watching this thread!

I expected Ezri to be a big sleeper since she's a preemie, but I thought by now (almost 9 weeks) she'd be more awake and happier. She does have stretches when she's awake and content - she'll tolerate a few minutes of tummy time or looking at our faces while we talk - but most of the time she seems unhappy unless she's nursing herself back to sleep. Most of the time she starts crying as soon as she wakes up.

Ideas???

Ugh, I just broke down and tried the pacifier that my older kid's dentist gave me at our last visit (they have these great "new baby" bags they give pregnant mamas, and while they include an orthodontic pacifier, they recommend not using it...) It seemed to help for a couple of minutes, long enough for me to make a cup of coffee! And now she's asleep, sans pacifier, in the vibrating bouncy chair. : I am really not a big fan of all these baby props-- I only own a bouncy seat because it allowed me to shower during DS's first year-- but this is the first time in about 48 hours when DD hasn't been being held by me or DH. Sigh...
