X-Post: My IUD is falling out!

So I've been having issues with my IUD...

This morning while checking my strings in the bathtub, I could feel my IUD in my cervix!

I wonder if it's been in this low position for awhile, and that's what has been causing my massive cramping... or if the massive cramping forced my IUD lower?

I check my strings every time I am in the shower, and they have always been there, though I did notice they've been a bit longer than I recall lately. I didn't realize it was falling out until I checked in the bathtub today because my uterus tilts back and I usually check my strings while standing, not lying down. It's not exactly out-out... I'd say it's about 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch within the opening of my cervical os... close enough that I can feel it in my cervix, but not actually hanging out.

I have an appointment set with my midwife for next friday (appt. was made before this latest discovery). Do you think it's salvageable? Will it have to come out? Is it possible for my MW to kind of, just poke it back in there, since it's not actually out?

TIA for any help!

Mine started to fall out like that (it had been in for 9 years). Of course I was traveling when it happened. As soon as I got home I saw the CNM and she removed it. I don't know if its salvageable but I'm thinking not...

I'm thinking it would not be salvageable. The risk for infection would be greatly increased even if it was just pushed back in.

You won't be able to wait until next week. Just pull it all the way out yourself (it's flexible) or if you're skittish be waiting outside the office when it opens and get seen ASAP.

I'm with Midwife Kris -- I removed mine by myself, and it was not a big deal at all, it was like removing a tampon.

WOWZA! That would be awesome! I was just lamenting with DH about how we can't afford another mirena... and how all other BC options just SUCK!

Does anyone else know anything about this? I'll have to see if I can dig out the pamphlet I got when I had it inserted... hopefully I still have it!

I had something very similar happen - I felt it right there at the opening, but by the time I got to the doctor it was back up there and she said it was in place. I know darn well what I felt, but it wormed its way back or something. It stayed in until it was time to remove it a few years later.

Can you still feel it there?
