how the heck can you get this nasty stuff off of fabric? i remember reading that it is made to stay in the fabric. i'm using warm water and Borax + seventh gen liquid detergent. i'm on my thrid wash! i'm gonna water more water and detergent than this stupid blanket is worth. any other suggestions?

Try washing with hot water and vinnigar. Vinnigar is really good at stripping of detergent residu but I'm not so sure about fabric softener.

Washing in Calgon removes the build up.

I have tried in on dh's socks.

I second the vinegar It works for us on consignment/thrift purchases.

Vinegar or dish soap will work.
