I think I had this. It was pretty fast. (But I didn't really like the RE—he actually did a heart, lung, breast, stomach exam in quick succession and then the mock transfer. I wasn't expecting anything but the mock transfer.) He used a speculum, found my cervix, and tried inserting an empty catheter into my cervical os. I'm not sure if he actually went in much, I didn't feel it and he said something about how he wasn't going all the way in but it looked like it would be easy when the time came. The mock transfer was practice for either IUI or IVF--same catheter is used I think (image google "IUI catheter"--you can see how small the tip is). It was not painful. Good luck with your appointment!

Thank you for the replies! I certainly hope re doesn't spring anything else on me! Wow, sorry that happened

I haven't had much discomfort so far (except when they tried to find my elusive left ovary during an u/s...) so I am not too worried. I feel pretty much like a freak show at this point...all those people poking at my parts What's a few more pokes, right?

The mock transfer isn't bad. I did spot for that day and the next, but I think that its pretty common. You might have some mild cramping, but once its over, it will stop. Its pretty quick.

Good luck at your consult! Hope you get all of your questions answered

I hope the mock transfer was quick and easy for you. I agree that this getting poked and prodded thing is really starting to seem normal.

Update, for those interetsed

Mock was easy peasy! RE was in and out and I was measured in 3 minutes. The worst part was the full bladder I did not urinate all over RE, tho, which was my fear...

At the consult, we went over everything that needs to be done when AF starts...semen ck, bloodwork, etc. Found out the whole thing will only cost us about $6K, which is great....our insurance covers u/s, blood work and meds.

Very nervous about all the meds. I've done gonal f on ovidrel, but know IM meds to date.

I am going to start a December IVF once AF shows. FWIW, DH and I are trying timed intercourse unmedicated, um, tonight and the next few days
Eternally hopeful I guess!!!

I look forward to hanging out with other Dec IVFers!
