I'm still here and still pregnant :P
We had a NST today and my midwife was still adamant that we needed to induce right away. We stood up to her, however, and she was not pleased...I also pretty much told her to f#$% herself when she mentioned stillbirth again. After that she was much more agreeable.
We consulted with an OB, as is the standard practice, who agreed with me that it would be ok to continue to wait as long as we have twice-weekly NSTs and u/s. She brought up the bedside u/s machine, and after being very active all morning, the baby decided to take a nap, when it was important to see at least 2 movements. We went for lunch (and a Starbucks Frap!) and when we came back, we got the movements right away. She also checked my fluid levels, and I scored over 5, which is the magic number for the AFI profile
That really put the midwife in her place, since she'd been insistent my levels were dangerously low and there was no hope for my baby.
The OB was awesome. She put DH and I at ease right away. She wore a beautiful pendant of a mother and child that just made me feel good to look at. We left the hospital, agreeing to come back Monday for another assessment, but as soon as we left, we realised that after our last experience, our #1 need is great caregivers who love their jobs and care about the families they help ~ we need this Dr there for our baby's birth. She's only on-call for the weekend, so we called the hospital when we got home to set up an induction for tomorrow. We're ready to meet our baby and we can't take any chances as to who will be attending. We've already said goodbye to our homebirth, but that doesn't mean this has to be a negative experience. I asked the OB to take over my care, that I'm not that midwife's client anymore ~ I found out after that the midwife was standing RIGHT BESIDE HER while we talked
I just didn't have it in me to fire the m/w right then, but I guess I don't have to at all now, since the OB handled it for me. I hope she doesn't ambush me at the hospital tomorrow!
We're to be at the hospital tomorrow at 9 am, and I actually feel good about this. I still can't believe how differently things are going than planned, but at least I finally have a caregiver I trust.
Thanks for all your support, gals, and I'll have a happy update for you in the next day or two.
