Pain, question

I had dental work done on thurs. its saturday now....im still feeling horrible. i had two molars worked on...one had a hole in it so she cleaned it out cleaned the root and drilled alot (not sure what exactly the drill was doing, she said cleaning)...said the tooth was too far gone, we will either pull or canal it later on i said pull and she said we cant today but after all the other work is done we will pull it. so for that day, she put in a temp filling (no amalgam I asked) and it took forever. The other molar was almost a goner too but she saved it thankfully. drilling and what not and then filling. I am still in SO much pain. its a little less than the last two days, but for the first night it was so unbearable i was crying and couldnt breathe...i felt like i was hyperventilating. then i had to cave and put anbesol on it and take motrin. I was about to go to the hospital. so yesterday was ok, until lunchtime, then it flared up. the pain was bearable, but after a few hours i had to lay down it was really killing me. i have been taking motrin around the clock. i have to...i have four kids and a husband who is never around much. i tried some arnica for bruising due to the injections and it did help for about an hour. (or could have just been me thinking it did...but i believe it did)

My question is: is this normal? is this amount of pain normal? The pain goes from my ear down my jawline to the middle of my chin. and of course on the gums too. i am doing some warm salt water swishes too. i am wondering if i should go back in and have it pulled? its just alot of pain. The last time i had a filling was when i was 6. and im 29 now lol. so im not used to this and wondering if this amount of pain is normal. if so, ill just weather it out. thanks!

Is your face swollen anywhere? It sounds like you still have a bit of an infection in there. If you haven't had a partial or full root canal it may continue to hurt as the infection continues down to the root. When I had a problem with one of my teeth I had a partial root canal and it felt better right away, instantly! I was so relieved. I've never had pain with a filling or even after my root canal.

I would go back and have them look at it. Do you have a yucky taste or pus around your gums that you notice?

Keep on using the sea salt in warm water to rinse after meals and drinks other than water.

I hope this gets better for your soon. I totally feel for you. I think that mouth and teeth pain is by far the worst ever!

nope my face is not swollen at all, no funny taste, no discharge the gums are very slightly swollen, but not alot. I called the dr and the dr's wife had said who did your work and i told her and she goes "Oh wonderful, what did she do to you?" THAT made me nervous! this dentist was recommended and I thought she was a wonderful dentist....she did everything wonderfully, but now i wonder that the woman said that. Anyway, the other dentist called me back and said i really needed to be on antibiotics. I told him the other dentist told me that there was a little infection in the gums..and he said, yeah, i should have been on antibiotics. But he said the pain is normal with this type of work, even 2 days later. he said the antibiotics will help ease the pain and then we will see from there if we should wait to pull or pull right away. i am not doing a root canal...ive heard too many bad things regarding the amount of pain....i can take pain, but if its worse than this (which ive heard) then i dont have time to deal with it lol. Hopefully we can just yank it out and be over with it lol

I'm glad that you called and are getting something to help it. I'm also glad that there are no other major things going on. This is good. I hope you feel better VERY soon!

thanks. I feel worse and awful though. the pain is by my ear then it runs down...but mainly its right by the hinge to my jaw by the ear. good thing i got the antibiotic. motrin is not helping much, pain comes and goes.....and when it comes i cry and cant take it. its the most excruciating pain ever. i dont know what else to do to make this go away, hopefully the antibiotics will work.

*Update*

Pain got so incredibly bad i was howling. I called the dentist again and he told me to meet him in the office. He did what he called essentially a root canal, but there was obviously no cap and crown. we left it open so the pressure couldnt build up again and then we will pull it soon. for now its fine he said and i should be ok when the stuff wears off. im very numb, number than the other day and i wont go to bed until it does...dont feel like biting off my tongue in my sleep So hopefully now it wont hurt anymore. well, until i get it pulled. thanks for the advice and good thoughts
