I know this thread has been going around, but I could not find it in a search. If anyone wants to post the thread link I would appreciate it. My MIL has asked for websites for toys made in the USA or pretty much anywhere there hasn't been a lead threat. Please post your favorite toy links here

THanks!!

I prefer toys made in Germany and Switzerland. They are usually very high-quality and they have much stricter rules on toxic toys than we do.

I like shopping at Oompa.com

Toys made by Holztiger are really fabulous, but a little pricey.

I think a lot of things made by Melissa and Doug are also safe. Those are made in the USA and can be found most anywhere, including amazon.com

Thanks! I have been looking at Oompa.

Melissa and Doug are made in China and despite their letters of safeness that they have sent. There was a guy that had a lead detector at a neighboring fire house you could bring toys to and M&D came back with Lead in them.

I'm not sure about just USA toys but here are some sites that I shop at. They have some nice wooden toys.

Hope that helps.

I just read an article yesterday. It said that Little Tykes, Knex and Lincoln Logs are made in the USA. I also use oompa toys and atoygarden.com is awesome!

And I know a family who tested their M&D toys and they came back safe.

Here is a link to an excellent list of over 75 links to companies that sell TOYS MADE IN THE U.S.A.

There is also a list of toys made in Europe.

I will only buying American toys for Christmas gifts this year. So far, I bought a great climbing set/slide from Step 2.

If you decide to get some Melissa and Doung toys, they sell them at Marshall's for very cheap prices. Do you have any Marshall's in your area? They sell most of them for less than $5 and they have some awesome magnetic calendars and play money sets for $9.99 I know that all Marshall's would have different merchandise, but I've been to 2 different Marshall's and they both carry Melissa and Doug. I think that all M&D is made in China, but some Haba toys are made in China too. It is so hard to know what is safe

I believe the Roy Toy brand "lincoln" logs and other wooden building toys are made in the USA.

If you are looking for trains

http://www.woodentoy.com/html/train.html

Mr. Linck makes the most beautiful and sturdy 10 inch long wooden trains in Wisconsin. We have 7 and they have lasted 8 years now. One train got damaged from Hurricane Charley last 2004 and the train was repaired free (he has a lifttime guarantee - his lifetime! LOL!)

They are expensive at $29 each (back in 1998 they were $20 each). I got my firstborn's name engraved on the underside of the engine train.
