non toxic nail polish

Does it exist? My little girls love their nails painted but I hate the thought of the junk in the polish.

I've been looking at this non-peel off nail polish for a while. My daughter LOVES nail polish too and well-meaning friends always seem to have it But I have no idea if it is as natural as it claims, you know? I've also thought about re-using a nail polish bottle, but fill it with non-toxic acrylic-- any thoughts about that?

Try that Honeybee Gardens maybe? (see PP's link)

I would be hesitant to use it on a very young child honestly, but on myself, sure.

Here's an interesting article on nail polish and it refers to the Honeybee brand: Click for link.

Here's an excerpt if you don't want to read the whole thing:

However, there are some slightly healthier alternatives out there. The best bet is Honeybee Gardens’ water-based nail enamel, available on their web site at www.HoneybeeGardens.com. This polish is completely free of phthalates, formaldehyde, solvents and FD&C colors. Testers of this product found that the peel-off variety went on very nicely, but they had to let it dry for a few hours or it would chip and peel off early. Honeybee’s stay-put variety works very well, especially with a clear coat underneath, but it too needs to dry for a couple of hours before it is totally set.

I use the Honeybee Gardens stuff. I don't find you have to let it dry too terribly long. It sticks like glue though, I must say. I ended up getting remover from Suncoat, but it still takes a while to get it off. Also, the purple colour seperates. I also have a pinkish one, and it's stayed emulsified, but that pale purple, it just splits into white and dark purple. It doesn't seem to affect the colour on the nail, but I cannot get it to mix properly in the bottle. It doesn't smell chemically at all.

I use some called Earthly Delights. It says it's non-toxic, water-based and doesn’t contain solvents. Toluene and Formaldehyde-free. Free of any animal ingredients.

that said..the ingredient list doesn't look all that natural either :P But I bought it because my girls love having their nails painted, and the idea of painting formaldehyde on their hands skeeved me out.
